Was searching around for the net for some new gimbles and found this!
How about a back pack mounted unit like the STS EVA suits and two of these things, one on each side?

Screw that, go to CompUSA and look at their input device selection, between joysticks mice and 'other' things you could create a control system like you described for very little. Certainly less than 1500

Yea I got a Microsoft Sidwinder II with force feedback sitting off to my right that would be cool to fly RC with.
