Default What Frequency to use

I have had some rc stuff given to me. A 5ch Futaba PCM/PPM radio with a battery powered car. It is on 50.920. I have been told 5 different things by as many people about the set up. I know it is an airplane radio but is it "illegal" to use this frequency for a car? I dont want to invest a bunch a money into a new (car type)radio. I am a ham and want to use 6 meters. So do I need to move up to 53Mhz or is 50Mhz ok? I cant find anyone who can tell me the same thing. Should I ask som elocal "Plane" guys because all of the people in the hobby shops dont seem to know what 50Mhz is. They just look at me like im stupid. I just want to use this stuff for a while untill I move up to aircraft someday...Jim/WM5L Ft. Worth,Tx

If you're a HAM you can use any HAM legal frequency for model control, 50MHz is just the frequency dedicated to it. The only thing you have to do to make it legal is put your callsign and address on a tag attached to the antenna of the xmitter.
I wouldn't touch 53MHz with a 10 foot pole because of repeater traffic that will still be popular for a few years until the sun spot cycle goes into the downswing.
