Default Info on old Futaba radio wanted....

This was given to me a while back. Just wondering if anyone has any info on how old it is and how much it might be worth.

The TX is a T4L and the RX is an R4F. It has 4 S28 servos with G connectors.

Its a complete system and is NIB.

Thanks!!

Chris

It is from the mid 80's. If it has not been gold stickered, it is not narrow band and technically illegal to operate. Futaba has the whole scoop on this subject on their web page.

The servos are very useable if you put updated connectors on them.

Default Or

Or you can sell it to a Canadian because in Canada we can use those wide band radios although you are advised not to. As long as you are out of range of any flying field we are allowed to use those all we want. You might find someonw who wants it.

Since it's NIB I'd have it gold-stickered for $15 and fly it. Of course you'll also have to replace both the xmtr and rec batt packs.

This radio is not narrow band and cannot be converted. Look back at the Futaba link.

If your radio is AM and is not on the list in step 4 AND does not already have a gold sticker on it, we cannot narrow band it for you. Unfortunately, under FCC regulation, we are no longer able to narrow band these old transmitters or otherwise provide any parts, information or service for these radios as of 3/1/98.

Default Call Radio South

Chris, you need to give Radio South a call at (850) 434-0909 and talk to Tony Stillman. He can upgrade and tune your xmtr to 1991 FCC "gold-sticker" specifications for you. Radio South also has a web page at http://www.radiosouthrc.com/ with some information, but the best bet is to talk to Tony yourself. It's certainly worth the cost of a phone call to find out. Good luck and keep us posted on what you find out.

some futaba radios have freqency modules which you can change get to replace youre old one. or you can buy a narrow band modules for it.
a module is a box that has all the freqency determining stuff in it.
you can buy any channal for your radio. if it is a module based radio. which it may not be.

and if it is FM it is fine all fm futaba radio transmitters are narrowband

this a bad pic. of a module (out of the back of the radio)

The transmitter can be narrow-banded by Radio-South, however the reciever is destined to remain of olden days. This is not illegal though, according to the mandate set, it was transmission only.
The AM recievers brand new are more then FM(isn't that a switch). If you keep your eyes out you can find them here, other sites, E-bay sometimes has good deal on them. The model #'s for the narrow-band reciever's are the R114 and R117. It's almost cost prohibitive though at this point to have all that done, when you can have a whole FM flight-pack for less the $100.
Good luck.
