Default Futaba R606FS 6 channel receiver

I just read this on the Futaba FAQ section of their website. Am I reading this right? The small 6 channel receiver is NOT compatable with their 7, 8, or 9 channel radios with 2.4ghz Module installed? That doesn't even make sense to me, why?

Is it possible to utilize the R606FS receiver with the TM-7 or TM-8 modules?

Futaba's R606FS receiver was designed to be utilized only with the 6EX 2.4GHz transmitter.

For easy reference, we have created a compatibility chart. To access this chart, please visit:

Yep, they've been saying that in the Futaba forum for some time now. I do believe the R606FS will work with the new 7C when it comes out though or other NON-MODULE Futaba radios. Please double check this before accepting as fact though.

This makes no sense to me that you have to have the 2.4 ghz 6 channel transmitter to use these nice "small" six channel receivers.

I just don't get it.

Seems Futaba has two different FASST implementations but are not calling it out in the name. You have to look carefully at their web site to discover this or be VERY active on these forums.

Spektrum calls this DSM 1 and DSM 2 and includes it in the product descriptions but Futaba does not, as far as I can tell.

The 6, 12, 14 channel thing is really strange. Must be that their transmitters have differences internally that force them to create two implementations.

I wonder if it has to do with the resolution capability of the newer Futaba radios. All the new radios are capable of 2048 resolution while the older radios listed have 1024 resolution. Somewhere in the logic of the transmitter, the stick position has to be calculated and the older transmitters have a max resolution capability of 1024 positions which has to be interpreted somewhere to match with the new modules and receivers.... I don't know where, but I suspect it is in the receiver which might explain why the first receiver (606) doesn't work with the older transmitters....... just a guess on my part...

2048/1024 is only relevant in PCM mode. You need to operate in PPM when using a 2.4 GHz module with Futaba.

Thankfully the newer 7 channel "small" receiver works with the other radios and 2.4 ghz modules.

But not the 6EX, which is unfortunate.

Default RE: Futaba R606FS 6 channel receiver

Bruce 88123,

I turn to the Futaba site for my information and base my statements upon this offical Futaba source.

However, if Krysta is right, seems that Futaba's customer support line and their product we site are out of sync. Which should we bet the ranch on? If I was making a buying decision I would base it on the Futaba site rather than the support line.

For those who want to see Krysta's report from the Futaba I have posted it here. In one sentance it says the R606FS was designed to be used only by the 6EX. Then he says it works with the 7C purpose built transmitter. So, is that now a supported configuration or just one that works but which Futaba will not support? I am not sure of the meaning of the sentance.

From Krysta's post:

Hi JC,

Futaba's R606FS receiver was designed to be utilized only with the 6EX 2.4GHz transmitter. It will also work with the 7C 2.4GHz system. It may not be used with the TM-7 or TM-8 modules. Subsequent receiver designs (R607FS, R608FS and R6014FS) incorporate design modifications which allow them to be utilized with the 6EX 2.4GHz system as well as the TM-7, TM-8 and TM-14 transmitter modules.

I hope you find this information helpful. You can also reach our Futaba support technical team at 217-398-8970, or via fax at 217-398-7721.

Sincerely,
Krysta

Good to know the 6 EX will have access to future receivers. Good info, if it is right.
