Just remember! When you by a FUTABA set it is coded for a region. If you want to travel there is a lot of hassle and expenses to it! Futaba service centers need to make money on people travelling the world! Look around for other brands as well!
One who has the experience!!! and is not happy with the Futaba locking in regional codes!
If you don't like it then speak with YOUR countries version of the FCC. They are the ones that stipulate specific frequencies and power levels that are allowed.

You dont understand! The respective freq is in the RF Module. If the TX wasn't region coded then you could put in what ever module you wanted according to local rules of course and fly with it. Futaba just make a lot of money by prohibiting the customers to make a choice. Heard about locking in your customers befoer?? Who need this??

I got to fly with my new 12FG today.. man what a nice radio. It was a new plane also, so I didn't get to any mixing, just basically flying circles and breaking in the motor. Very crisp response, switches are easy to access. I think I'm going to like it!

? for fg users. Y'all still happy? I have the green light to get the 14MZ 2.4 but I'm getting mucho tired of waiting for the release. Might just have to get a Fg and be happy. What will disapoint me if I do not wait for the MZ?

One thing that the 14MZ (and the 12Z) DOES have that the 12FG does not is the ability to set up and lock in your mixing while you are in the air.

I haven't seen it or tried it, but apparently, you just get the plane locked into a knife edge (for example) with your sticks, then have a friend hit a button on the transmitter... those settings are locked into your receiver... and you can set a multipoint curve with this, so at different rudder throws, you will have different aileron and elevator settings to hold a knife edge.

Now, on the 12FG, once you set a "starting" mix for knife edge, you can tie your ailerons and elevator to the two open trim switches.. then once you're in the air, if you have too much aileron, for example, you can trim some of it out with the assigned trim switches... That sure beats landing, changing settings then trying again, but I would like to see the capabilities of the 14MZ and 12Z.

The 14mz has been out for over a week now...my LHS had them and the 12Z last Friday (both the 2.4 gig versions).

Speaking of which, I'd like to thank everyone here for the input and descriptions, it was all very helpful in my decision process.

Actually, maybe I should be chastizing everyone here for helping me spend so much on a radio! [X(]

Now I just have to learn how to use all of the functions on this new radio!

Yes. Chief got in a 12Z the day I called to order a 12FG. I felt it must be my fate to have a 12z. Fingers crossed that it's as good as the hype.

So... how much was the 12z (now that I just bought the FG)?

I didn't ask. Wouldn't have done any good to know Though I expect it to be similar to Towers price. The wife will tell me when the cc bill comes then look out!

I know that the Spektrum 2.4 system allows the use of a "counter module" or something like that to record and report back to you antenna fades, missed frames, etc. Does Futaba's 2.4 system allow any similar diagnostics? Any way to know if you are near the limit? Thanks.

Spektrum = Data Logger
Futaba = not yet

Does that mean that Futaba has oficially stated that they will be offering some sort of data logger? If so, has a time frame been stated?

Thanks.

I haven't seen any of these yet. Can anyone comment on the balance of them in your hands with these new modules? I am leaning towards the 12z because I like the feel of it but I am still looking.

I have the 12FG... couldn't wait on the 12z... but I wish I did. A larger screen, metal case, better battery technology and the ability to fine tune mixing and lock it in while flying would certainly be worth the added $400.

Quite a few flights with it now (12z) and the confidence is building. It feels good in my hands, not as light as the 7c but it doesn't drag my arms down like the 9z did. Sticks are right where my thumbs want them to be. I ran them in about 2 turns, feels good. I started off with a major servo compatibility issue (the HT5955 servos need to be on a power expander when using the 6014 rx). So my confidence was knocked a bit. Getting over it though and think the 12z is what I wanted all along. The Tx battery lasts a long long time. The battery charger supplied requires removing the battery from the radio to charge. I'm getting better at remembering to take the battery to the field, saves on gas. There is a charge port in the case to charge in the radio but that charger is seperate. It is on my list of things to buy, the Smart Fly MZ14 expander came first. You get 2 dual rates per channel per condition, plan on learning to program conditions, once learned it easy. Next on the list of things to learn is setting curves in flight, it should make KE loops almost a hands free trick.

What kind of problems were you seeing with the Hitec 5955's? I'm using a 12FG radio, but the plane has the 6014 receiver, connected directly to 6 5955 servos.... Its a new radio/receiver, less than a dozen flights, but absolutely no problems. I do run dual batteries into the receiver, but no power box.

The signal voltage from the 6014 is 3.7v; Ht 5955's one to two years old require a higher signal voltage. It's not a guaranteed problem for all 5955s, some will work and some will not. HT has supposedly reworked the newer servos above version 1.4 with a capacitor or something. No issues with the 7 ch rx's as they work in the 1024 res. Also learned you need to program the HT servos to run the higher 2048 res from the 6014 rx. There's a good thread on Flogging Giants with better answers than mine.
