I think either one would be a Great choice as they are both quality companies....

Personally, I fly Futaba and will soon be switching to 2.4....
but...stick with what you are used to.....

If you decide to buy Futaba.....you'll be right.
If you decide to buy JR.....you'll be right.
Either way you won't be wrong.
They are both excellent radios.

Here are the "technical" differences if you care to look.

[link=http://www.hooked-on-rc-airplanes.com/spread-spectrum.html]Futaba vs Spectrum technology[/link]

The main difference is they both use different methods of spreading spectrum technology. This technology is so new that there have really not been any evidence yet that one is better than the other.

Futaba has been making radio's for a long time where as Spektrum is relatively new. But... Spektrum came out with 2.4 Ghz radio first...

Not completely accurate. Spektrum had the first RC model radio. Futaba had been doing industrial SS for quite some time.

I used to fly nothing but Futaba. I switched to JR and now Spektrum and I have no plan to go back any time soon. I also like Ford trucks over Chevy or Dodge, and that makes just about as much difference.

it is not to be compared between a dodge and a chevy... it is to be compared between a talkie walkie and a cellular phone...
the spectrum transmit on two frequencies only, wich is not enough on this highly used band... in france at least, there is big wifi antennas on most of the top of water tower... i had glitches on every flight with the spectrum...
the fasst switches on the frequencies of the band all the time and very... fasst..
the transmission is locked by a code, that makes the receiver to disregard all the receiption from something else than your transmitter...
like, your cellular phone rings but not all the others...

so the futaba is much, much better, unless you are flying in the desert... but in this case, you can also use a 27 mhz am radio...

After a careful search- I find there are no French water towers in our state.
The SPEKTRUM works nicely here

is there no wi fi in america??? no cellular phone? is it untrue that mc conville did crash a big aircraft during a show? come on! there is a big thread talking about spectrum issue... try to find for futaba, exept about the two guys who had the same guid code....
in any case, even if the spectrum works in some place, the futaba works everywhere, this is why it is better...

Try this:
use em - fly em -a lot
The Bull Poopie about the "superior signal stuff " is a dead issue - tho the ghost of it occasionally creeps from the grave.
The solemn theoritical comparisons- -mostly again-- Bull Poopie
Around here both systems have little or no signal issues -
the relative features of the systems -an entirely different matter.

Sorry--my bad--I was asking where Mike M. crashed due to a Spektrum failure.

Yes..Spektrum is a miserable failure--I wonder why Horizon cant keep Spektrum stuff in stock...must be a marketing ploy.

No sorrow needed I'm into my second year with Spektrum --- 2006 to now (we have a bunch here) flying routinely (most every day) zero problems at all-------for any one in the area----even the newbies. F3A thru 40%.

BTW Mike McConville did NOT crash because of any Radio/Servo problems but when a wing blows up on an older F1 racer gravity tends to take over.

Quique never crashed because of radio either (SEFF 2007) it was determined and published that day that a regulator was overloaded and went south. Bad installation YES, Radio NO.
Care to try again??

In over 48 years of flying, the Spektrum series (Including JR-Spektrum) have proven to be the most reliable I've ever flown-----and that includes all the so called "Super Radios" as well as most of the leading brands. All have been IC powered so I can't address the electric powered aspect.

Just leave this daggets guy alone. If you look at his posts on different threads, he is just baiting everyone into an argument. No matter what truth or experience you have or know it won't change his mind so in the end tell him to have a nice day and let him post his version of "knowledge" for all to see.

We'll let your post do just that! Thanks.

I simply hadn't encountered daggets before. A whole list of others I know------added one more name---daggets--- Apparently he fits his surroundings rather well.

Just when I was having fun--
Now we have apparantly another player in the game - the new Airtronics.
In that they have seen the teething problems others encountered - -I expect they will have fewer "hiccoughs" than some others .

Well, I'll have to get the information on Airtronics performance from others. In our area I don't believe we have one Airtronics flier.
Car radios ---- quite a number---- air = zip.

And this is from a well populated RC community. Roughly ten Metro clubs and probably that number again in the more suburban areas. At roughly 100/club that is a fair number of RC'rs and my numbers are intentionally on the conservative side.

Interesting how the different brands fare in different parts of the country.

If you don't under power your spektrum system, it will be perfect. Just use the right setup and you shouldn't have any worries. I have been using Spektum 2.4 for a couple of months without a hitch. At my field there has been "issues" with Spektrum, Fasst and Xtreme link. Spektrum failures can be narrowed down to a voltage problem as for the other two, who knows?!? 2.4 is a VERY line-of-site frequency and this has to be taken into consideration when setting up an airplane.

I have the JR X9300 and absolutely love it.
