Default Digital servo help

I am trying to get some information on the "digital servos" I am familiar with how our radio systems get their information, but would like to know what the "digital" servos are doing with the decoded info from the receiver. I guess what I am asking for is a "Reader's Digest" version of how do they work and why should I want to buy them. Trying to get a new pattern ship set up and want to put in the right servos do to the job.

Thanks,

Deadstik

Here's how I understand it - hopefully someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

The digital servos have a digital amplifier in them so that they develop their full torque even when a small deflection is required, which also provides more "holding power" against the air-flow. I believe they also provide a faster response, since they operate at full speed regardless how close or far they are from the requested positioning.

I hope that's right...

They also have a much tighter deadband so the centering is significantly better than the analogs.

I'm still learning...

I assume the rest of my explanation is right, since you didn't correct any error (just an omission).
