RE: Will a GY-401 Gyro work in an airplane?
I have a couple laying around and I am interested in seeing how it will affect certain maneuvers, like Hovering, and/or slow rolls. Will it take the skill out of them? Things like that.

Thanks andy, I've always been a basic 4 channel sport pilot. I have very little experience with Helis and really none with gyros.
Any tips you'd care to give would be recieved with gratitude.

My tip is don't bother
Don't try to fly around in heading hold mode, the behavior won't be pleasant. It's ok for trying to hover or torque roll but its far from needed. The most practical application on airplanes is to imrove ground handling on take off on squirrelly scale planes and help make take off runs straight.
I had one in a Funtana to try it out, I yanked it back out when I needed it for a heli and haven't missed it.

Guy I fly with put one in a Bobcat to experiment but didnt have any way to switch it, had the gain set too high. It didnt turn out well, plane was completely destroyed.
