Default Does Spektrum offer a 2.4Ghz Module solution for a Futaba 9C?

Hi,

I was wondering if Spektrum offers a 2.4Ghz module solution for a Futaba 9C radio, that can be quickly swapped in and out with the existing 72Mhz module?

The reason I ask is because I'd like to use the new technology on a large scale project that I'm working on, but I'd also like to keep using all my 72Mhz receivers, too. So I was wondering if Spektrum makes a module with an integrated antenna, that can be swapped out in seconds, so I can fly 2.4Ghz, or 72Mhz, without much fuss.

I know there are other brands that offer what I'm looking for, but I'm already committed to Spektrum. So my only concern is whether Spektrum makes a module that will do what I'm looking for.

Thank You,

Mark

Yep. Since the radio has to be in ppm mode to interface with the module you only get 8 channels, thats the only limitation.

Thanks for the reply Andy!

I was looking at that module just yesterday, but it looks like you have to replace the existing 9C antenna with the Spektrum antenna for it to work? Is this a quick change-over? Because I'm looking for a solution that I can do in seconds, between flights at the flying field.

Almost all my planes are still on 72Mhz, but I'd like the new plane to be on 2.4Ghz. So I need to be able to switch over from one to the other quickly, and easily, at the field.

I was originally hoping to just put the new plane on my 6ch Spektrum, but by the time I mix in the 2 aileron and 2 elevator servos, it leaves me with no mixing functions left. I also love the feature on the 9C where you can program your timer to start with the throttle. The Spektrum only allows you to assign it to a switch, and I NEVER remember to flip the switch before each flight!

All you have to do is unscrew the original ant. and insert there dummy ant. Then snap the 2.4 ant. to it. Swap out the modules and atach the cable. Probably a couple of minutes work.

Thanks for the reply rd!

I just downloaded the Spektrum Module Manual a few minutes before your reply, and like you said, it looks like a real easy change-over!

I think changing the 9C antenna out is more work than simply unscrewing it, if I remember correctly. In any case you could just get a 2.2db antenna and just screw it to the connection on the module. I did that with my JR XP9303 as I thought the wire from the module was hokey and an accident waiting to happen. Haven't had any problems with that setup. Ideally it would have been better if Spektrum had made the antenna connection near the top of the module and pointing up so the antenna could be screwed to it and sit between the handle and the transmitter, similar to what XPS did.

exeter_acres...That would have been the best solution. But as you can see by my first post, I'm already committed to Spektrum.

Thanks for the link Dan!

My friend told me about a thread where somebody described how to internally mount the Spektrum system in a 9C, but I never was able to find it. Looks easy enough, and much better than the external cable. Unfortunately, right now I'm looking for a solution that will allow me to switch back and forth between 72Mhz, and 2.4Ghz, quickly at the flying field. I may end up doing the internal conversion some day if they end up banning 72Mhz in the future. But for now, I got way to many planes on 72Mhz to switch them all over.

Not true. The 9C antenna simply unscrews from the top of the xmitter. Drop in the Spektrum plastic subsitute and snap in the Spektrum module and go fly.

may I ask why you are "committed" to a different brand solution?

Default RE: Does Spektrum offer a 2.4Ghz Module solution for a Futaba 9C?

Because I already own 7 Spektrum receivers that I got for my Spektrum DX6i, and I'd like to be able to use them with my 9C, as well. No use buying more VERY expensive Futaba receivers, when I can just use the Spektrum receivers I already own.

Mark, if I were you I'd bookmark that thread so when you go to all 2.4GHz you can go ahead and modify your 9c.
