Default Hitec 5475 econo digi servos...Any good?

Has anyone had the chance to use the new Hitec HS-5475 econo digital servos? They are going for around $35 each...which seems pretty cheap for a digital servo. Any positive or negative comments about these servos is welcomed so that I may make a more informed choice. How big of a plane do you think these would be good for? I'm not necessarily looking for plane specific information (however, I would probably be putting these into a World Super Chipmunk), I'm more interested in overall experiences with the servo. Thanks!

Mike

They work good but don't have alot of torque. They aren't coreless.

Their perfect where ever it calls for a standard servo. I have some on a GP extra 300s .60. They are very precise compared to a standard servo, except they have the same torque as a standard servo.

The 5475 has about 50% more torque than a standard servo like the 422 and over 4 times the holding power. I would use it in similar applications to the 605 or 545.

Thanks Mike, those were the servos I was considering and I think I'll go with the 5475s...they seem much better then the 422s I have used in the past and you just can't beat the price!!

Default Hitec hs-5475 digital servos

I too am considering these for a Tai Ji. Has anybody tried these yet? Any special conditions to consider for these? Will I have any concerns with a 5 cell pack (drain etc....) thanks

Just plug and play! All Hitec servos and receivers can handle a 5 cell pack with no problems; a regulator is not needed or recommended either.

Do you need any special stuff to run digital servo's? I would use the HS5475 with a JR 662 radio package.

Nope! Use them just as you would any other servo.

Default 5475

Ordered mine from Donalds Hobby - they advertise here on RCUniverse. Great service were here in a couple days. Check them out - they have a good deal now on the 5645/5625 and they will match any price.

Put the HS-5475's in my Tai Ji today. They are much different than the Futaba std bb servo's I normally use. Side by side bang the stick comparison to a Futaba 9001 I had and the Futaba sounds nothing like the Hitec digitals.

Using a 5 cell Nimh pack. These Hitec's are fast and respond imediatly with a high speed wine compared to the groan of an analog servo. They sound even higher pitched than my Hitec 525 high speed servos. Yet smooth and not loud like the 605's.

You cannot move them from a fixed position. Seem tremendously responsive. Unlike the metal gear models you do not have to worry about slop in the gear train. That seems to be the biggest problem with the Heli guys using Hitec. Can't wait to try them in the air. Not bad for a sub $35 servo.

Would the 5475's be suitable for the ailerons and elevators on a 1/4 scale Hanger 9 clipped wing Taylorcraft 85 1/2" wing span?
Thanks

you are probably better off with the HS-5645. the 5475 is a little low on power for a plane that big. The 5645 is $20 more, but it is more than twice as powerful. It puts out 141 oz of torque at 4.8 volts, and has metal gears. $55 at servocity.com

Thanks but I am going to run the 5475's on 6 volts...... should be plenty of servo. I don't plan on wringing the Tcraft out...... I have a Patrick Ulty with a YS 140 DZ for that.
later!
