Default How many of you find this funny?

Like the title says, how many of you think it's funny that Futaba's TM-8 Module/R608FS combo ($320) on Tower Hobbies is more expensive than the TM-8 ($170) and R608FS ($140) seperate?

Don't believe me?? Here are the links: [link=http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXRTU7&P=7]Combo,[/link] [link=http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXRTT6&P=V]Module,[/link] and [link=http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXRTS6&P=V]Receiver[/link].

I paid $300 for my TM-8 combo. Prices must have gone up. Of course, I then got the 10C and am using that now.

To clarify, I really didn't mean funny-haha....I meant funny-weird, like "my brother smells funny."
I've seen SO many of these across the internet, I guess it's just a good lesson to REALLY look into things before you buy them. I guess that's why RCU is as big as it is.

Oh, Twinturbostang: a couple months ago EVERYTHING on TH went up in price. Not really that much, but still noticeable. And how are you liking your 10C?? I'm IN LOVE with mine. Couldn't image living without it.

People really pound on Tower for raising prices but they're not the only one.

My brother paid 129.99 for an Ultra Stick 40 a couple of years ago. It's 149.99 now.
Tower sells the Big Stik 40 for 129.99

Love it! Works great. The main problem with the TM-8 module was it did not have fail safe on all channels. For several of my models, I have to have fail safe in order for my co-pilot/autopilot to activate in the event of loss of signal. So I took the plunge and got the 10C (which DOES have fail on all channels) and couldn't be happier.

The prices rising actually benefit me, since I have a TM-8 system that I will be selling. I probably will bundle it with my 9C that I don't need anymore.

What's funny is the prices that Futaba owners are willing to pay for the grossly overpriced equipment.

Charley:

Let’s see… apples to apples: Maybe?

AR7000 = $100.00
617FS = $100.00

AR9000 = $170.00 (9Channel)
R921 = $190.00 (9Channel)
608FS = $140.00 (8Channel)

R1221 = 230.00 (12 Channel)
6014 = 200.00 (14Channel)

The same scenario with the radios.

Regards,
Doug.

If you get off the overpriced JR & Futaba gear, not to mention Spectrum:

Airtronics Receiver - RDS8000 FHSS 8ch 2.4GHz $79.99 They are actually ~$70 bucks if you buy a couple.

RDS8000 Tx & TWO Rx's = $229.99 Cheaper with hp.n shipping discount.

You guys are buying a name, IMHO. OH well, it's your dough.

To be perfectly honest, I don't mind buying a name. Plus, I think that the aesthetics of a Tx are very imporant....and I think Airtronics Tx's are just hideous. I'm not only buying the name, I'm buying the peace of mind that comes with buying that name.

Victorzamora,

Now you are just being mean. Hideous? I don't think so. Slightly unique? Possibly.

You're right, I'm sorry. It is severely aesthetically challenged.
I sound like a government official now....that's scary.

You know what is scary? You read all these threads about zguid and receivers that die when they get a little warm and it gives you peace of mind! Thats scary.

This is true. You know what else is scarier? Something unpreventable, like the massive interference reported with DSM2. I've heard of Tx's shutting off and having to reinitialize for no apparent reason...and planes just falling out of the sky after several glitches. A heat problem you can solve.

Yep. You can tape the Rx to the outside of the plane. Er, using "name" tape.
