Default Seperate Channel or Mixer

I'm setting up my first split elevator. I bought a channel reversing mixer thingy majob. But...got to thinking why not mix it in with the radio. I have a JR 8103 so I'm assuming there is a function for that(but haven't checked). Is there any advantage to going one route or the other?

If you can mix it at the TX, the mathematics say it's more reliable. Things that aren't there can't go wrong.
