Default Futaba 6EX 2.4 Question

I was surfing the Tower Hobbies site and noticed they had a Futaba 6EX 2.4 on sale for $189.99 (w/S3001 servos).
Can someone explain the difference between these two radios? Is it just the difference in servos - 3001 v.s. 3004?
I'm interested in a new radio for my second plane (Goldberg Tiger 2).

Futaba 6EX 6-Channel 2.4GHz/4 S3004 Servos: ($259.99)

Futaba 6EX 6-Channel 2.4GHz/4 S3001 Servos: ($189.99)
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXSFY4&P=0

Thanks,
Charlie

The lower price one is a heli version. All the same software for airplanes and helis in both, just a slightly different switch location layout. Killer price. The 617 RX is $100 right now, so $89 for the TX, chargers, RX pack and 4 servos. Seems killer to me.!!

Switches are physically the same, but the function varies based on whether heli or airplane mode is selected.

Hi, hope you dont mind me stickin my beak in but........ if I were you I`d go for the 7C at least. I bought the 6EX earlier in the year. For a start it has limited model storage. Flap switch is not variable...it`s either on or off. Mainly though, the channel mixing is rubbish. i.e dual servo setup for elevator. It can be done by activating PMX1 AND PMX2 and setting one to -100% and the other to +100%, but you still don`t get the sme throw, and there`s no trimming for the slave channel. Avoid my mistake...louisben

From the Futaba direct support forum - the radios are identical. Only difference is in the battery pack and servos.

There is one physical difference. The heli mode has a smooth detent on the throttle ratchet. The airplane has the usual "click" feel to the throttle.

I bought the heli version due to the low cost. I bent the ratchet detent so it has a bit of "click" feel to it.

Or you can buy them:

congrats Charlie..........you will not be dissapointed with this radio. i still have mine and use it with a park flyer and it's never given me one single issue.
i used it for 2 different gas flyers as well. rock solid, and it's also the system that brought me back to RC. no interference or glitch issues.
