Default LHS says Futaba 6xas discontinued??

They say it is unofficial, but that it is being replaced by a "6exa." It is to retail for $289.00. Does anyony know about this?

I'm in the market for my 1st 6 channel radio and was comparing the Fut 6xas ($219) and the JR xp662 ($249). Now I can completely overthink my decision.

Any news or thoughts?

Thanks

Harphunt, I just searched tower for this transmitter and found the following. Not sure if the 6xas is a goner or not, but looks like the 6EXA is here and a great price.

I found it ,too. Futaba has it on their homepage, also. It looks like a counterpart to JR's 631. It seems to do much less than the 6xas. I wonder what the fate of the 6xas is?

If anyone can enlighten me as to the differences.

The 6XAS is still listed on the Futaba web site:

http://www.futaba-rc.com/radios/futk30.html

as well as the Tower web site:

http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...=++&search3=Go

The 6EXA is on the Futaba web site at:

http://www.futaba-rc.com/radios/futk55.html

I own a 6XAS, curious to see what happens.

AMC said somewhere in this forum that there is another version of the 6EXA that will replace the 6XAS. More features, etc.

To all,

At this time, there are no plans to discontinue the Futaba 6X-series of transmitters.

The 6EXA is a replacement for older systems with less capabilites. Instead of a basic encoder chip and dials to adjust travels, end points, etcetera, it uses an LCD screen and small computer chip. The 6EXA is less capable than the 6XAS/6XHS.

If Futaba brings out a replacement for the 6XAS/6XHS transmitter rest assured it would be AT LEAST as capable.

At this time, though, there are NO plans to phase out the 6X series.

I recently purchased the 6EXA from Tower. It really is a nice radio. The programming is very intuitive in that you don't need to lug along the manual to the field to input changes.

Granted, it doesn't have the capabilities of the 6X (which I also have), but it does all I need and more.

I really like it. And the price is very good.

I currently have a Futaba Skysport for my trainer and would not be in this dilemma (662 vs 6xas) if the Futaba wasn't so darn aesthetically unappealing. It needs a "make over."

I think the 6exa won't allow enough room for growth (unless someone can explain otherwise - it is a great price!) and can't figure out, due to my ignorance, which has more features, the 662 or the 6xas (I swear I'm not trying to start a war).

I also think that if there were warehouses full of "old" product, I wouldn't announce a new version either.

(Too much research - sins of my father)

I know this is kind of changing the subject, but since we are discussing new transmitters, I thought I would bring it up.

What I really wish is that HiTec would come out with a really outstanding, cutting edge transmitter. I'm thinking something in the catagory of the Futaba 9C, or the JR 8013. HiTec makes great servos and receivers that set standards for high quality and great value. It just doesn't seem that their transmitters are in quite the same catagory. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying they are junk. But when it comes to styling, features, and programming ease, the Futaba 9C and JR 8103 seem to be a step ahead.

Comments?

Yes but they are priced differently. The Eclipse fills the void between the 6X/622 and 9C/8103. Since Hitec bought Multiplex I don't really see them coming out with another high end radio.

I think the 622 and 6X are feature fo feature pretty close. The Futaba does have proportional flaps/flaperons while the JR does not. The JR has three character model naming while the Futaba is just numbers. I have not had a problem with using the numbers. The 6XAS can have dual rates on two different switches for elevator and aileron or on one switch for elevator, aileron, and rudder. Not sure if the 622 does this or not.

I bought the 6XAS last summer and four months later found the need to upgrade again. I wish I had just bought the 9C to begin with.

Just my unofficial observation on features of the 6EXA v 6XA:
6EXA FM only, no PCM capability
6EXA aileron & elevator single dual rate switch, 6XA has 2
6EXA trim tabs are electronic, i.e. buttons (micro switches) that are pushed to right or left to change trim. They are always centered and trim settings remain. (Very Nice)
6EXA menu is much easier to navigate in my view.
6EXA has engine kill feature.
6EXA has 1 personal mixing option, 6XA has 2.

There may be other differences I haven't noticed yet. I just received my 6EXA and haven't flown with it at this point.

Hope this helps.

Just because Hitec now owns Multiplex and they have a high end radio doesn't mean that Hitec will not continue to move forward. Look for a replacment for the Flash line first though. I can't say any more at this time.

Flyfalcons

I wish you could guide me to the AMC comment you mentioned. I would hate to buy the 6xas just to find out that it has been replaced (yeah, I know I'll never keep up) and I do believe it will/is being replaced regardless of other responses. It's too damn ugly not to be. I think I'll try and put my decision to bed until the Venture is finished.

PEACE

Harphunt,
Oops! First of all, the post I read was by Krysta, and she was actually comparing the 6exa to the 6xas. Just the way it was presented made me think for some reason that there was another version of the 6exa coming out. She referred to it as the "6XS", and i didn't make the correlation to the old radio.

Anyway, the 6XAS is quite comfortable to hold and is pretty light, with good features for the price. I imagine though that it is slated for replacement pretty soon, but that's just a guess.
