Default DX6i Binding

Before anyone says "read the instructions" or "search", I have.

I purchased one of these radio systems and have been attempting to bind it all day. The only difference between the directions setup and mine is I am using a Futaba 3 wire "Y" harness to connect the bind plug and the receiver pack to the BATT/BIND slot instead of the Spectrum receiver switch. Just to finish off the picture of what I am working with, I have 1 JR servo hooked up to the THRO slot and 1 JR servo hooked up to the ELEV slot for testing.

Please help...

try this:

plug the battery/switch lead in any open channel at the Rx (EXCEPT the BATTERY slot)

plug the bind plug directly in the Rx BATTERY slot

bind per the instructions

My guess would be its the Futaba harness causing your problem. Do what Vasek said.

I just got off the phone with Spectrum, they walked me through the binding. Guess what, I now get to send my receiver back to them to have them "look" at it and see what can be done.

Ya Spectrum[sm=thumbs_down.gif]

Should have gone with the Futaba....

Alright, I went to the LHS and had them follow the instructions like I did.

It completed the binding at the store.

I came home, did EXACTLY what we did at the LHS, nothing. It would not bind.

Took the radio to my shop (6.2 miles from my house) and repeated the binding process again. It had no issues binding at my shop.

So, I must live in the Spectrum dead zone.

Anyone else run into something like this??

Another thing to try is to move the transmitter further away from the receiver while binding. Mine would not bind if they were close together. Try it and let us know.

Sometimes being around a lot of metal causes problems. Metal shelves, metal work bench, that sort of thing. Take it somewhere away from all that and keep the transmitter a few feet from the receiver.

I was attempting to bind the system in my living room. I had the receiver 16 feet away from the transmitter in a wood constructed home. My shop is a 4000 square foot metal box with steel I beams as its main structure.

I don't know, I can't give you a reason why[sm=rolleyes.gif]

Well the 16 feet may be the issue, 2 or 3 feet (arms length) seems to work best. By pressing the bind button you're both sending out the signal to bind AND reducing the power output substaintailly, this is what allows you to range test since you can't exactly colapse the antenna.

I believe that high levels of fluorescent lighting or a computer router too close or other 2.4 GHz gadget operating real close will upset it too. Try in your driveway (outside, not in garage). I don't think you will be flying in your living room anyway, will you? Put the plane/RX at your feet and stand up - BIND. Should be OK if nothing else is different than at the Hobby Shop.
