Can someone tell me about this receiver
This is a ACE R/C 5 channel Silver-Seven.
What confusing is the servo leads look like Futaba J type plugs.
Are these plugs standard or has someone taken the time to replace the old leads?
Is this is AM or FM?
How can you tell what frequency is?

I replace leads all the time so that doesn't mean much.
Can you get a sharper picture? The pic posted doesn't really provide much of a clue. Can you find the crystal? It will be stamped. If it's more than 15 years old, it's probably not narrow band.

A lot of the Silver Seven stuff was purchased in kit form and built by the modeler (I built two rx's myself). One could use what ever connectors desired to fit the intended servos. This may be the case with your rx. I used Dean's connectors on mine. I may be wrong, but I believe I even remember that built rx's could come with Futaba J or Dean's plug ends.

I did open it up and the crystal is not marked with any numbers but it does have a blank and green paint dots on the end. Were these Rx's AM or FM?

I am alomost certain the Silver Sevens were AM. I had two and do not remember an FM option being available. I do not remember Ace going to FM until they introduced the PRO 810 rx; and a lot of the PRO 810's were AM.

AK has it exactly right, The S7 was AM only and you could order (as an option) the RX with either Futaba G, Deans or Kraft C connectors. The FM RX's were called ProStar, not Pro810.

Thanks for the info. Now like I posted above the Crystal only has a blank and green paint dot on it. No numbers, is there anyway to know what the frequency is?
Could a AM Futaba plug in Crystal be used in it's place?
I don't know if I would do this but I thought I'd ask.

This rx is one of the wide-band units on one of the 6 original 72 mHz frequencies we were alocated back around 1966-67 (I know I purchased my first 72 mHz on 72.400, PCS 5 unit). Being a wide band rx, I believe more than just replacing the crystal (even if it were compatible with the rest of the rf section) would be necessary to have a rx whcih would be trustworthy in today's environment. Today's rx's are designed to operate in a much more busy rf environment and are, therefore, narrow band (since 1991).
By the way, I do remember the Prostar FM rx now but had divorced myself from Ace equipment by the time it appeared and had become an Airtronics user.

Thanks. So maybe the best thing for this RX is to cut the pig tails off and g-file the rest.
You said your a Airtronic user. Where is a good source for servo gears and servo pig-tails for Airtronics? I have acquired 6 servos that all have bad gears and the pig-tails have been cut off (don't ask why, I still questioning some of the things the prior owner did). This also might be one of those issues where it would be better to g-file the items.

Unknown - not that familiar with the Futaba crystal. But if you want to receive on a 72.xx channel on that ACE RX, then the calculation for the crystal follows.
(72.xx + .455Mhz)/2 = Local Oscillator (LO) frequency of the crystal.
(72.xx + .455Mhz)/2 = Local Oscillator (LO) frequency of the crystal.

If you're going to g-file it, could you send it my way? I could use it for another project.
Thanks!
