Default R617FS rx - WHERE DOES CH7 GO??

I'm sure I'm gonna get flamed all over for asking but...

I bought a Futaba 7C a while back. I finally took it out of the box and have started figuring it out, read most of the manual. I still haven't been able to figure out how to connect a CH7 servo. The CH7 slot is where the battery goes.

How do you connect the CH7 servo?

Use a Y cable to connect the battery and servo in the same port.

Is it as simple as that? If they include an extension wire for ailerons, why wouldn't they throw in the extra $0.02.3 cent item like that in the box? Or god forbid include such information somewhere in the manual?!?!

Or have I just been missing it? The manual reads worse than stereo instructions.

I'm new to the world of computerized radios. Last one I had was a Cirrus 6ch analog.

I'm pretty sure the label for ch 7 says 7/B. Not sure what is in the manual, but that has been SOP for many years with Futaba on a lot of receivers.

Well... There you have it!

Thank you very much for clearing that up for me. I figured it'd be so simple. Sux ta have to pick up that extra piece of hardware to experiment with my new radio.

And now that I feel like a shmuck...

LOL

Thanks again.

You can actually plug the battery into any servo port and it will work. So if you end up with any free ports, don't bother with a y-splitter, just plug the batt into the extra port and off you go.

Notice all the black and all the red wires line up when you plug the servos in. Thats called a bus bar, power is supplied to the servos and recieved from the battery all along it's length. Only the signal wires go to/from the rx as well as power to run it.

Very good additional info. Now I've been able to test my CH7 and bounced it between a few switches. Awesome!

I like to have a good understanding of such things. That electrical config is logical.

Thanks again guys. Much appreciated.

My old R127DFs have a "B" slot plus 1-7 for the servos compared to having the "7/B" on the R617FS.
I guess the need to make things smaller, lighter, and cheaper to manufacture drive some product changes.

I have a Futaba 7C and only just recently figured out you can use a y for the battery. Thanks for posting this, because, as dptrue said, the manual really doesn't say anything about it.

You can also use this "bus" feature to run dual battery packs if desired. Be sure to use 2 switch harnesses and to charge the batteries seperately.

I am trying to use channel 7 of this receiver with a 12Z and it will not work. I have checked everything used a different receiver of the same type as well as a different y-cable. When I move the control surface that the servo is on it moves freely when the radio and plane are on. It should resist movement so it seems like it is not getting power, but I did try a different receiver. I have my flaps on channel 5 and 6 so all slots are full.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Scott

What are you trying to control with ch 7 and what control or switch are you using to operate it? Temporarily plug the battery into a different port (yes you'll need to pull another servo for this). then see if it will work plugged DIRECTLY into the #7 port (no Y-cable). If yes, the Y-cable is bad.

Is your 12Z in the 7 Channel mode?

Yes it is in the 7 channel mode. I plugged the y-harness into a different slot and that servo worked, but still nothing from the servo in the 7th slot. The 7th channel will be an aileron.

I have the function menu set up.

Thanks

That being the case, you have something wrong in your programing. Start with assigning the channel in the function menu than assure that you have elevons or however you are mixing the ailerons turned on. Don't assume you have it right, go back and do it all again.

I would agree completely with that thought. I guess it would be best to erase it and start over. In the 12Z what is that channel known as? Flap2?

I will try that.

Thanks
Scott

Scott, I can walk you through it all, but tell me what wing type you are setting up, what you are trying to do etc. I can then give it to you step by step. I have a 12Z in front of me right now.

I am setting up a ultra stick 60 setting the flaps and ailerons on different servos so I can set up crow, etc. I set this up a few years ago on my 8uap, but it has been a while.

Thanks for your help.

Thanks
Scott

What lever, knob do you want to control your flaps?

Go ahead and pick a three toggle switch. I can change them as needed.

Thanks
