Default Futaba R6014FS and R608FS Discontinued

Futaba has come out with two new 2.4 GHz FASST receivers.

The R608FS has already been discontinued and replaces with the 6008HS.

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXWVF5&P=SM

The R6014FS is listed as discontinued but the new R6014HS has not shown up on Tower yet, but it is coming soon.

Here is the link for the manual for both of them:

http://manuals.hobbico.com/fut/r6008...4hs-manual.pdf

What has been added is what is called a High SPeed mode that can be enabled for channels 1 through 6. This halves the frame rate from 14ms to 7ms. When in High Speed mode you MUST use digital servos on channels 1 through 6. The higher numbered channels can use either/or.

When in normal mode you can use either/or analog digital as you choose to.

This brings the technology Futaba has had in the surface world for some time to aircraft. Boaters and cars have had this feature in the 3 and 4 channel surface radios for at least 2 or 3 years now. The faster frame rate allows digital servos to perfrom at their maximum level. The resolution remains at 2048 for both receivers.

And no, neither one has a dot on it

That I do not know. But I never saw this as a problem. The very small number of servos and devices that did not work with the lower signal voltage were generally modified by their manufacturer.

I finally looked at mine. I stand corrected, mine have a neat (and tiny) gold dot. What could it mean?? I was told they fired the guy putting dots on the receivers.

Kind of blows the dot theory out the window however. THis is a brand new RX complete with a new name. Why is there a dot? What does it all mean?? [&:]

I don't think it blows the dot theory out at all, The dots most likely mean
that the receivers are compliant in someway like faster boot up and
better heat tolerance.

LMAO...yeah we could start a whole new Conspiracy Theory with this one eh?

all i know is that i'm a much happier camper when powring up with analog servos..........just think how goofy it would have looked to turn the power on, and all the controls on my Nieuport 28 go cockeyed momentarily. with the instant on of the newer 608/6014's this has been eliminated.

also, and this is just because i had to try, the analogs work while in HS mode, but buzz at nuetral. wonder why.

I have not tried it with the 6008, but on the 603FS analogs either respond erratically, or burn out very quickly. I really recommend that people just take Futaba's word on this one. In HS mode you can run analogs on channels 7 through 8 or 14. They buzz because they are trying to cope with a frame rate well above what they are designed to handle.

Gee, you'd think having a whole new design and name would take care of that. So it's the dot that tells the difference between the old FS and the new HS?? Not the labels or anything like that??

I really dont know what you are trying get at but its obvious the dots were put there by Futaba to tell someone something it is also obvious that the dotted
receivers and the non dotted ones behave differently, For all we know the dot could be some type of quality control inspection mark just like the I sticker
that was on the receivers that had the zero guid issue repaired.

My point is that many people viewed the dot as signifying updated receivers. But brand new receivers like the 6008 and 6004 have dots on them too. So I suspect that people are reading too much into the dots. I also doubt that the dots are some way for Futaba to track different versions of the same RX series. I agree with you that it is most likely some sort of QA/QC thing to show which units have been checked and which have not. This avoids sending out units that have not been through the QA/QC process.

Mike,

I'll be getting one soon, but what will happened if you use all digitals but one analog on the throttle channel?

Doug.

If you leave it set to the default normal mode, nothing will happen. It will be just like running the R608FS.

If you set it to High Speed Mode, then if you radio allows it, reassign the throttle to a channel higher than #6 (7, 8, 9, 10, .....) Depends on your radio and which RX (6008HS or 6014HS)

If your radio does not allow for channel assignment to be changed, then either do not use the HS mode or replace the throttle serov with a digital if you want to use the HS mode.

Would it be better if those fast channels can be assigned on the radio, for example HS channels: 1, 2, 4, 5, 8, and rest non-HS ones? This probably can be achieved via software on the radio, and a new receiver that understands the channel speed difference.

And if they did that, then there would be people who did not want it. I think for now it is what it is. I really doubt that we will see any changes soon, and if they do make a change it would be to make all channel high speed. I can only assume that there is some hardware limitation in the design of the receivers that prevented this.

Again, it is software that controls. The # of HS channels can be easily capped by the software. I probably do not care the HS for throttle channel and an analog servo is perfectly OK. The channel for the 2nd elevator and 2nd aileron should be HS matched with the first and they are usually above channel 6. The existing channel assignment is already a common sense and we do not want to change it (e.g., channel 3 is the throttle).

I suggest that you contact the Futaba engineers in Japan to bring them up to speed on how they should have done this. It being as simple as you say I am sure they will be happy to implement it once they know how.

I thought FUTABA bragged that they had the most experience with 2.4 technology. The discontinuation of these receivers and all the controversy that followed them cannot help them any.
I made the switch to 2.4 this spring, and after reading all of the Heat related issues, and how Futaba was handleing them, I decided to steer clear of FAST and go with Spectrum.
I was a JR guy to begin with, but was open to change, but I could not understand how they were having all the issues with there technology.[]
