Default Single stick?

I just got back into the hobby last fall after a break of 10 years or so. I bought a new Spektrum 7-channel for my newest plane, but the standard two-stick configuration doesn't feel natural since I had been flying Single Stick since 1975. My old Ace Micropro 8000 seems to have problems, so I don't feel comfortable using it any more. Does anyone make a modern single stick transmitter? Even special orders would be considered.

I haven't seen a single stick since I gave away my old Royal Clasic 69 radio. I guess you could hire someone to move the stick to a new radio, if the mounting was OK. One thing you may want to look at is some of the robotics sites, start with ServoCity, you may find what you are looking for there. May. My guess though is that it's time to learn mode 2 flying.

Good luck in your search

There is a guy that posts here fairly often that has updated software, etc, for the Micropro, as well as info on conversions to 2.4 using modules, etc. Dan Thompson I think, if I remember his name correctly.

I found this contact info in an older post:

You might have him fix up your micropro. From what I've seen, single stick radios (older ones) are bringing a price premium these days, just because (as you've found) that you can't find a new one! I have a JRCentury 7 that i'm hanging on to in case I ever want the case & stick for a project, and my old Ace Silver Seven would have to be checked out and new batteries installed, etc before I could use it, but I"m hanging on to that one, too

Yea, another single stick user! I too love the single. I have, and won't through away, my ProLine Single stick. I have an Ace Silver Seven Single Stick that is almost brand new in that I may have only 5 hours of time on it. I intend to use it some of my SPA planes I will be building. Radio South should be able to get your 8000 working. (follow the link below.)
I'm not sure if any of the RC radios today have a single stick option. If some one else knows of one I too would like to know. Also wonder if anyone builds a servo with linear outputs?

I believe Tony Stillman at RC South will install SS 2.4electronicsin old single stick Tx's. You might contact him for price, etc.

His web site is www.radiosouthrc.com.

Silvertone still makes SS.

...but they're an Australian firm, so frequencies may be an issue.

Here's a few of mine - I mainly fly two stick now but still like to get the single sticks out - one of my favorites is the EK from about 1969 on 26.995, works fine -

What's the advantage of a single stick radio? Are just the ailerons and elevator on the stick and everything else on slides?

Aileron and elevator plus rudder is on the stick. Throttle is on the side or top depending on the users preference.

I like the fact that on my Silver Seven SS that I have an auxiliary rudder control for my left thumb that frees up my right hand to only have to concentrate on elevator and aileron. I use my left hand for my slow roll button and throttle are all very short and quick to move if needed. Remember that this is not a computer radio and that you not able to mix controls which I feel is truer to the pilots skill and not letting the radio do the work. I also have exponential on my radio which really smooths things up. I'm going to look into the possibility of upgrading the Pro-Line SS which has the ball bearing gimbals on the machined stick. Really if you ever have the chance to use a SS I think find it to be much more comfortable. Now who out there makes liner output servos?

I believe EMS/Jomar makes a kit to convert some Futaba servos to linear output.
Exponiential on a computer transmitter will make a rotary servo appear linear.

How does that work with 3 channels on the stick? Does the knob rotate for the rudder?

Come over to Lex, KYand I will put you on the buddy cord. I have done that to several club members for them to experience the single stick.
Ifly both SS and DS and I tell people I fly them both equally as bad.
