Default Slop in HS 7955TG out of the box ???

Has anyone else noticed a large amount of slop in their HS 7955TG servos? I recently purchased some from TBM and installed them and to my surprise they Had 1/8" of movement in all but one. I'm thinking bad batch maybe. and when you put a 1 1/2" metal arm , or even a pull pull arm wow it has a 1/4" arm movement on the rudder. and other controls. by the was i have them in other planes and those are rock solid. Has anyone else seen this?

power on . all metal arms with TX on and all controls in neutral. you can move some of the surfaces 1/4" or so. and I checked very closely. it is all in the servo

I have found similar play in control systems with these servos, and 5955TG's, unless using SWB, Airwild MLP, or "stock" Hitec arms. Any others have spline tolerances that permit the movement you are seeing, particularly when longer arms and higher control surface deflections are being used.

I have a test board with a protractor and stock Hitec HD nylon arms that I use for checking gear train lash. On all of mine through the years, the TG sets have been very very tight, with hardly any mechanical lash in the output gear unless using one of the arms with imprecise splines.

That makes a lot of send now that I think of it. P.S. I edited the servo model number to the correct model #

I'd look real hard at the linkage ratio and mechanical set-up. As Master Bob noted this is not uncommonly realized in the mechanical and linkage setup and is know fault of the servos gear-train backlash. You can easily confirm if the servo is the origin of the control linkage slop, install a stock arm and no linkage and see if you realize backlash with very-very slight forward-reverse motion manually applied via fingers.

Do you really need 1.5" servo arms? How long are your control arms?
