Can i use any 2.4G receiver with my airtronics?
Hi,
I just got an Airtronics MX-3 Sport 2.4ghz transmitter and receiver. Iwanted to get another receiver to use the radio in another car and when i went to the local hobby shop. Some girl said i can use ANY 2.4ghz receiver. Is this correct?? i just want a decent/inexpensive receiver to put in the other car. I only got my transmitter/receiver for $80 and the local store was selling the receiver ALONE for $70... i might as put 10 dollars more for an extra transmitter... NUTS i tell ya... your help is greatly appreciated..

I'm not sure on that. You'll have to wait for someone that's an actual airtronics user to chime in.
Hobby People had the 3-ch receiver that they specifically list as compatible with the MX-3 sport for 60 bucks, but you'd have to pay shipping, etc.
Sort of like printers and ink cartridges. They can afford to almost give away printers (transmitters) to get you to buy more ink (receivers...)

JR and Spektrum share the same technology so they can use each others Tx and Rx for 2.4.
If you have a Tx that has removable RF Modules, like the Futaba 8AUPS, 9CAP, and JR XP8103 and XP9303, you can use 2.4 RF Modules from companies other than the ones who make the Tx. Futaba, Spektrum, Hitec, XPS, Assan, etc., make 2.4 RF Modules. So if you put the appropriate Spektrum Module in a Futaba 9CAP, for example, you could use Spektrum 2.4 Rx's, but not Futaba 2.4 Rx's unless you bought the Futaba 2.4 RF Module.

Futaba surface and air systems do not talk to each other either. Mostly due to the channel count and how they encode the signals for the different number of channels
2.4 is just like the old PCM. You can only use the same brand TX and RX (JR/Spektrum being the same when it comes to the RF part).
