The short answer is no. I suppose an electronics guru could pull it off, but you'd have 3 times the money invested vs. what you can buy a new 2.4 radio for. Vanguards make decent buddy boxes for the RDS8000 though, so they still have a place in the hobby.

Do they have trainer ports? If so, ASSAN makes a module that plugs into the trainer port. It costs $100 + shipping with two receivers. Remove the 72mhz crystal and plug the module in the trainer port and you are converted.

Any radio which has ppm output can be converted to 2.4Ghz, very easy using the Buddy box socket. Assan is good but another option is even better:

Its chinese too but can be ordered from US dealer, there is a review of it as well as other systems here:

For Buddy box connections:

Since all 2.4Ghz system work only with their own system, the cost of the Rx is what makes the difference in the end if you want to oufit many models. There is many conversions discussed at:

The only one I'll be weary about is the Corona system which has some issues.
Here is the Airtronic buddy box connection:

If you can solder three wires, you can put a spektrum module in there also, and take advantage of all the parkzone etc. stuff. It would take a little bit hacking/ imagination, but not difficult at all.

Not necessarily true. For example, compatible receivers are available here: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...&ParentCat=190

RE: Can you convert old Airtronics to 2.4GHZ?
I have converted my old RD6000 to 2.4G.
I used this kit
http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbyking/s...RX_%28DSSS%29_
I am mostly doing electric/park sized models but it works great. Price is also right and the radio looks like it was made this way after the conversion. A real bargain.
Prior to doing this conversion, the radio was dead because the RF section was not working so I really had nothing to lose.
I have also bought this for my Optic 6...
http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbyking/s..._%28V2_DSSS%29
I use it as a backup. My Optic 6 usd to be my primary radio but I like the 2.4G stuff so much and it works so well that my Optic 6 is now my backup!
I was finding that I got a lot of interference where I flew and after changing over to 2.4G all the interference disappeared. PM me if you want details of the conversion.
Cheers
