Quick Change Aurora 9 and Optic 6 72Mhz and 2.4Ghz Antenna Mounting Mod

Hi,

Please see pictures below as a reference. Three pictures show the antenna mount on an Aurora 9, but it will work equally as well with the Optic 6.

This will allow you to switch between the 72Mhz and 2.4Ghz antennae easily without unscrewing one antenna to be replaced by the other. The plastic is held on the 72Mhz antenna tightly with a tight fitting grommet and it works very well.

The picture with the dimensions shows the drawing of the part with dimensions directly above the part used.

The 2.4Ghz antenna fits "snuggly" into the smaller grommet and can be put in or taken out easily.

The plastic used is about 3/32" (a little over 1/16"). It should a little flexible and not too brittle. I used a protective shipping cover from a HP colour ink cartridge. The picture shows the cover as well as a plastic protective shipping cover from a cabinet that was shipped - either will work just as well. Anything with the same thickness should work.

To make the hole for the antenna in the plastic, I drilled the hole smaller than needed then reamed it carefully, then tested for grommet size then repeated as necessary (a large prop reamer will do) until the hole was the right size to squeeze the grommet in.

I hope you find this useful.

Hi,

I have just been advised of a mistake I made in the first post. Although the text is correct in the first post, I mistakenly labeled the "grommets" as "O" rings in the picture.

Sorry for any confusion.
