How can we know if we are getting a fake Spektrum clone?

I did a search for Koko Technology since Horizon Hobby mentions them in their ad copy for Spektrum products. I was pretty surprised to find these:

This is not "Orange" stuff, this is made to look EXACTLY like a Spektrum product.

How can a consumer ID a fake version?

First thing would be to buy from a reputable dealer. Your links above are already dead, that throws a big red flag. Either I just got infected with a virus you pointed me to, or the dealer you were looking at, already did the bait and switch.

That website probably just does not allow linking. Just do a google search for "Koko Technology Spektrum" and it is the #2 and #3 hit.

Now, how would you know it was real, even from a reputable dealer? Counterfeit products is a problem in all industry and other goods. Someone might buy a DX6i online from what appears to be a legit dealer. Is there a way to check it once it's in your hands?

Why would you want to buy and "trust" a "Spectrum Clone"?

Isn't the existence of a fake products a kind of red flag to begin with, re: using clones.

Tom,

If you have a real and a Koko next to each other, it's very easy to see the differences. We don't point them out, because we don't want Koko to change their products in any way.

Likewise, our Service people see their counterfeit rx's now and then, and have no trouble spotting them when they come in.

I have nothing good to say about those who make counterfeit products or who steal technology and then repackage it as a "compatible."

allans: I would never knowingly purchase a Spektrum "clone", IE a counterfeit, fake, etc. Something made to look like Spektrum, but it is not.

I, like apparently many others, have purchased Spektrum "compatible" receivers, IE the "OrangeRx" from Hobby King. They specifically state it "is not a Spektrum product" and they make no attempt to have it look like one.
