Futaba radio/antenna problem
 

I have a cutout problem with my heli.
I have a Corona heli by Lite Machines. Built with the stock Fusion7 and CC speed controler, then upgrading to a hacker brushless and Jedi ESC. From the start it seemed that I was loosing signal causing the motor or ESC to cut out. It has a Deans antenna witch I located in the provided position.

using a Deans two piece mini

Folowing the Deans Instructions I cut the antenna lead from the reciever from 4" to 10", installed connector, and antenna. A range check with my reciever antenna down gave me about 15' before servo twitching. Bypassing the stock Deans connector had the same effect. Having misplaced the length of antenna wire I cut off of the reciever, I taped a 3.5' length of 18Ga. wire to the reciever antenna and rechecked. I got about 55' before there was any twitching. The heli flew with no problems from a close distance. What could I do to fix this problem, and/or what did I do wrong.

If you only get 15 feet of separation between RX and TX with the Dean's mini antenna and only 55 feet with a standard length antenna I think the problem is in the transmitter or receiver, not in the antenna system.

I have recently (the past two weekends) been running some tests using my 9Z and a Dean's two piece mini antenna in preparation for using the system in a turbine-powered airframe. With the 9Z antenna totally collapsed I get out to 300 feet without any servo twitching. This is in PCM mode but I would expect PPM to be about the same, if there is no interference generated in the area. This test was done in my old radio testing airplane with engine running and not running.

I would do another test using a different receiver to see if the baseline you found of 55 feet remains the same or you are able to get further away before any servo twitching occurs.

Thanks for the info. I will try and hunt down a compatable reciever to recheck the range.

A friend of mine just got back his radio and transmitter we used for the test. Both are the exact same as mine. His radio, my reciever 55'. My radio, his new reciever with stock antenna 30'. His radio and reciever we stopped at about 125'. What should I do to get the radio fixed. I have a new reciever on the way.

Thank you again for your help again. I will get it fixed. I should still be under warranty. Only 6 months old.

I contacted futaba service center and they want the reciever.:( I know the the problem is in the tx and rx. I have the new rx I bought ind I'm going to run the range tests again. This problem is becoming a real pain. The antenna (Deans) has been eliminated as a cause, but I have a system that does not operate properly.

I have alerady run tests with the exact same systems and my tx and rx both show ng.I will try the tests again and let you know.

If you believe the problem imvolves both the transmitter and receiver, then by all means send them to the service center.
