RC Noob needs help
I figured I'll just post the video straight away. Links, guides, knowledge...that's what I'm looking for. I'd like to take this apart and fix it myself...pictures are helpful :)

hey rafael,

basically i have an old RC car, the motor makes a weird whine noise whenever i turn it on, the video shows it clearly. it also goes a lot slower than it used to....any ideas?

See, I thought you had a question about a radio, since your question is posted in the "RC Radios, Transmitters, Receivers, Servos, gyros" section of this site.

I will pull stuff from the little knowledege I have about electronics, and not necessarily about electric cars.

1. Does the motor turn freely by hand?
2. Has the motor gotten wet?
3. Have you checked the brushes in the motor?
4. Can you confirm proper operation of the speed control?
5. Can you confirm proper operation of the radio system?

Those are the first few ideas that pop into my head. I'll try to log on at the house where I should be able to see the video. In the meantime, Post the same question in the most appropriate sub-forum in the car section:

hope you get it figured out soon.

So, how old are the batteries? Do they hold a charge?

New batteries?

A new motor?

You may get more information from the car guys.

RE: RC Noob needs help
Finally saw the video. Here are a few suggestions.....

1. Never, NEVER turn off the radio while the vehicle is powered on. ALWAYS turn on the radio first and then plug in the battery. When done, unplug the battery first then turn off the radio. Seen some very funny stuff and some very scary stuff when done otherwise.

2. As mentioned above, how old are the batteries? When were they last charged? Do you have a battery cycler? Do you have a charger that can show you the amount of charge that went into the battery?

Hope you get it figured out soon.
