Is the JR xp662 ([link=http://horizon.hobbyshopnow.com/products/description.asp?prod=JRP6822**]http://horizon.hobbyshopnow.com/products/description.asp?prod=JRP6822**[/link]) a good radio? I am going to be using it for a Hangar 9 Funtana S and as a 1st heli radio. Any other suggestions? The main reason im not going with the futaba 6 channel radio is because it looks old and outdated for some reason...Thanks for any help!

Oh yeah. One more thing. If i get that radio, is it worth upgrading to PCM modulation or just sticking to the base FM. I think ill just stay with the FM but tell me if i shouldnt.

Varad,

I bought the JR662 for my son two months ago. We have a basic set up of R700 (FM) with 537 servos and 1100 mAh batt. The unit is very good in terms of:
- easy to program for wing type and standard stuff like servo throws, rates and expo.
- ergonomics are OK but not as good as the 9X or the 8103.
- user features such as the display size, switch positions and throttle cut are fine.

What it lacks is a timer and proportional 6th channel. I haven't yet tried any of the mixing options other than flaperon. The feel of the sticks is typical in this price range, not up to the level of the 8103 etc.

For it's price (here in Australia) it represents good value but if you can afford more eg the 8103 or 9X (when available in the states) I'd buy the better model if you intend on staying in the hobby.

I haven't used the radio with my PCM receiver, we have no problems with FM, I guess it's a personal thing unless you are getting interference on FM.

Have a look at the RD6000 series by Airtronics. If you're just going to fly airplanes the 662 is fine, but the RD6000 has it beat hands down when it comes to helis. 5-point pitch/throttle curves and digital hover trims are advantages of the RD6000.

This is my backup radio to my PCM10, decent little radio for the price.

I do wish it had a countdown timer and, although you can name your models, you can only select them by number.[sm=confused.gif]

If you're going to fly helis, go with PCM and program fail-safe to throttle cut for safety's sake.
