servo gear replacement
Need some advice before I buy some sets of replacement gear for four HITEC HS81 servos. I plan to use them for a 3D plane, and I believe the nylon gears will not hold. The question is: is it a straight forward change? ( pull the nylon ones and insert the metal ones), or are there any differences between the two?

RE: servo gear replacement
What size 3D plane are you contemplating?
Forget all about the HS81 (even with MGs) for a 40-sized bird and they'd probably be marginal even on a 25-sized one. I like the HS81 and have never busted a tooth -- but I'd never dream of using them on anything much bigger than an 0.15-sized plane. Before you fork out $$ on a metal gearset, check the price difference between an HS81 and HS81MG, last time I did it was less than the price of a set of metal gears so it might work out better to just buy some HS81MG servos and keep the nylon ones for throttle. |

Agreed....
Yes the gear switch is easy.... but I wouldn't use these servos on anything glow..... save them for your electrics |
RE: servo gear replacement
XJet, the HS81 are intended for use on a Mini 3D. I agree, I wouldnt use them for anything bigger than a .15, but the manufacturer recommends HS81.
I checked tower hobbies for the HS81MG and they have them for $ 23.99, the metal gears are $ 16.59 ea., which is not cheap either. I´m still doing some math to see if i go for the cost of insurance :D Thanks for the response, also to exceter -acres |
