Hitec Laser 4

Im looking at buying the Hitec Laser 4-4 channel radio for an upcoming RC airplane Im going to build. On tower hobbies, it says that it comes with a battery pack for the transmitter (understandable) and also a battery pack for the reciever which I dont understand. Why would you need a battery pack for the reciever? Thats just extra weight in the plane, right?

What is that used for and do I need it?

You can see on this link the batteries included.

If this airplane is a glow powered airplane then yes you are going to need it. Something has to power the Rx and the servos.

If this airplane is an electric then you may not need it. Many electronic speed controls in an electric airplane flight pack (a flight pack is all the electronics that go in the airplane) have a BEC feature. This Battery Eliminator Circuit allows the motor battery to power up the Rx and servos. A few with very high capacity for large cell count batterys may still require a separate Rx battery pack.

Hitec radios can be ordered with flight packs for electrics that include speed controls and approriate sized servos and you may want to search on Servo City as a good supplier.

Ahhhhh...Im so dumb. I only fly electrics but I shouldve realized what it was for from my Nitro cars. lol.

I found a good deal on a new Hitec Laser 4 on ebay, so far its at $33 and it includes everything, charger, batteries, 4 servos, reciever. Is this a good radio?
