Futaba FM versus AM basic ?

I have some Futaba FM radios, but I found an excellent Futaba Conquest 4 ch. AM radio with a gold RF dated sticker on back (?) along with a nice 4ch Futaba R114H receiver that I planned to use in an electric cub which uses a 600 speed motor and a 3300 Mah battery. Some local pilots say I should stick with the FM systems and avoid the obsolete AM equipment regardless of condition. In today's world of R/C are they correct? My sense is that my plan is quite viable--opinions please.

AM is NOT obsolete, you still can buy new AM equipment. Up until last year I flew several electrics on a single stick Focus 3 - 3 channel AM radio, runs great! My rc truck is also on AM.

TO smoking crater and any other R/C' ers commenting on my AM v.s. FM radio issue:
I fogot to mention that in addition to the opinion I got that AM radios were obsolete in comparison to current FM models, I was told that AM is more prone to interference from other sources than FM, which is more serious with airplanes than cars, obviously. Although channel numbers are similar, FM is supposed to be more "secure" than AM, was the further comment. My experience with the Futaba Conquest AM is limited to one trainer installation awhile ago in which I had a strange crash situation in which I figured was 98% pilot error as a novice! Hope this clarifies my situation as I don't know totally who to believe at this point! Thanks to all. Jackhy

For the first 20 years all we had was AM for RC. It worked just fine - still does. There are sound technical reasons that FM-PPM is better and FM-PCM is better still, but I wouldn't throw away an AM system.
