PCM VS FM Question

I have a Futaba 6XA FM transmitter with an R127 FM receiver. If I want to switch to a PCM receiver, do I need another transmitter that is purpose built for the PCM receiver?

RE: PCM VS FM Question

pcm can't be compared to fm (search on here for that subject...)

anyway, yes a 6xa will do either pcm or ppm.

I think (don't own one) that the 6xa does pcm and ppm(fm) but remember if you buy into :D pcm you MUST purchase a futaba pcm receiver you can't mix and match receivers with pcm

I have a 6xa transmitter and use it for both PPM and PCM.. Just a matter os setting the transmitter to PPM or PCM to match the reciever being used at the moment.. I have quit buying PPM receivers and am going all PCM... Much happier with it..

I started out with PPM.. Over a period of years I got "glitched" and few times and lost planes... Also had guys turned on while I was up and I lost the planes... I purchased a 9c that came with a PCM receiver and love it.. Now when hit with one of these mysterious glitches it goes into failsafe (set to throttle back and circle) and I have not lost any planes.. I have had one person turn on again while I was up (same freq) and my plane once again went into fail safe ... I started yelling and he turned off... No damage done.. The range seems a lot better with the PPM also.. It is a very long walk to get out of range when doing a range check.. I feel very confident when flying with my PCM receivers..

RE: PCM VS FM Question

Just remember if you mix and match PCM and PPM recievers on the same transmitter you have to power cycle the transmitter after you change the modulation. The modulation is selectable per model so if you change models that have different modulation types you have to power cycle after you change models.
