Servo power requirements

Can anyone tell me how to interpret servo power requirements in order to use an appropriately sized power supply? Also do digital servos require more power?

Answer to #1 When in doubt, go bigger (ie mah)
#2 Yes but it is not outlandish. I'm flying JR8411's on everything except MC and find the 1400 mah pack sufficient. Currently I'm using 1700mah packs. Why? --- they are the same size as the 1400mah and the weight/price penalty is virtually nil.
