Question about Receivers

I need some clarification. I am new to the hobby and learing these details about receivers.

I know about the channels (1-42??). I was told that channels 1-15 is different than 16 on up. The channel numbers might be a little different than what I stated, but what I was told is that if I buy a receiver and use channel 13, I would not be able to use channel 37 or so in it. Something like a high-band and a low-band.

I hope I'm making sense. I am using channel 13 on a positive shift GWS receiver. Do I need to make sure I buy another one for the lower channels or can I use one that has been used on channel 37?

Help Please.

Question about Receivers

I believe Futaba is the only company that has a "High" and "Low" band. In Futaba's case, 11-34 are low band, 35-60 are high band.

You are correct that if you have a low band RX, you have to have low band crystal. Again, this only applies to Futaba. You can verify this with GWS by seeing if they offer a low and high band RX (receiver).

Question about Receivers

Channels 00 - 09 are on 50 Mhz - Users must hold a Ham license.
Channels 11 - 35 Lower half of 72Mhz Band - for aircraft use only
Channels 36 - 60 Upper Half of 72Mhz Band - for aircraft use only (only Futaba splits the 72Mhz band)
Channels 61 - 90 75Mhz band - for ground use only (boats, cars, tanks, etc...)

That's how the channels are assigned in North America.

If you buy a Futaba reciever in the lower half of the 72Mhz band (commonly called low band), it should only be used with crystals for channels 11 - 35. A Futaba reciever in the upper half of the 72Mhz band (commonly called high band) should only be used with crystals for channels 36 - 60.

Any other brand of 72Mhz reciever can be used on any channel within the entire band. I have checked this with Hitec, Airtronics, JR, FMA and GWS.

Yes, you can use the one that has been on Ch37 by replacing the crystal with a GWS or Hitec Ch 13 crystal (do not use any other brand crystal)
