Cristan,
You don't need to do anything special to "break them in". Just balance/charge them and use them. The "breaking in" you hear people talk about is usually just a reference to the fact the many batteries, including lipos to some small extent, will have small performance improvement after you use them a few times.
Sometimes lipo batteries will take a long time to balance on the charger when they are new, or have sat unused, or not been balanced in a long time. The charger will charge them up to near peak voltage (8.40 volts) then continue to balance them for several hours to get the cell voltages very even.

30c is the power they supply. means more power delivered to the esc than say a 20c battery.
i'm new to lipo's also but learning alot.
i have question for you guys. what motors are you all running. we're having a hard time finding good brushed motors that are inexspensive.

They are called 7.4 volt batteries- but they are fully charged when they are at 8.4 volts. By the time you Lipo battery gets down to 7.4 volts it has will only last a few more minutes of runtime. I am unsure as to why batteries are rated the way they are- voltage wise- but thats the way it is.
you would find the same phenomenon if you checked a 12volt car battery when fully charged it would actually be about 14 volts or so.
I can say from experience that any money spent on a Venom fireball motor is wasted money at least the ones the were making 1-2 years ago. they were total junk and burned up very quickly.

i do not know. we've been looking and can't find anything really that looks good and will be reliable.
i guess brushed motors are getting to be a thing of the past with all the brushless setups that are out.
lots of them have been discontinued.
i've been researching the ezrun brushless setups and people really seem to like them. for $70 you can get the esc and motor. they have them at hobbycity.com.
the downside is it takes a couple weeks to get here from hong kong.

RE: SLASH RACING in POWHATAN VA.
Since it seems that the guys over here in Powhatan will likely decide to stay with brushed motors for time being (I am all for the reliability of the brushless motors myself).... I am undecided on whether or not I will even bother with a modified 19t motor or just stick with the stock one. While the stock motor is not rebuildable replacing brushes/springs and cutting the commutator is just not appealing to me. There is a chance I may stick with the stock motor, just don't know yet.
I would certainly consider adding an external heatsink/fan combo to whatever motor I end up using. That will help keep the temp of any motor down, and thus reduce worn parts.
I can vouch that the Chameleon and Komodo motors have worked f"airly" well in my Kyosho RC surfer but being in salt water the brushes literally only last 2-4 battery packs. Even when they don't get wet the salt in the air and wear from use does its thing very quickly to them. I will be switching to a brushless setup in my RC Surfer for those reasons my "Hong Kong" watercooled brushless ESC from ebay is on its way.
Those EZRUN systems seem to have decent rep., but I have heard that you need to get the ODD number motors i.e.13.5,17.5 - because the 12.5 motors apparently have a standard sized motor can, but with a small rotor- and so they produce a lot less power.
