NEW YORK CITY BASH

Hey guys it seems many of us in NY are left out in the cold when it comes to places to run and people to run with. If you do find a track, it is usually just for road cars or 1/10 scale. Those of you with ANY scale who just want to have fun with other NYers or TRI state then sign up here and state if you are interested. Leave your email address and I will try to get something going here. I am not taking charge of anything, but I just want to get some people together for a run. Also, post where you live so we can try to get a good location that is not too far for anyone to come.

I myself will be bringing my trucks that run nitro so we will be looking for nitro friendly places as I know some Savage owners who want to run. Drop a post :)

RE: NEW YORK CITY BASH

If theres anyone is in or around brookyn NYC, know that theres really no place for us to race our trucks OFFROAD....unill now!!!
Gateway Mall, behind BJs off the Belt Parkway theres a HUGE empty feild filled with mostly sand thats PREFECT for Monter Trucks or Truggys. Its composed of beach sand thats not flat and BORING...there also a few sand piles that can be used for jumps. The best part is that in the cut, theres a LARGE oval track track with whoops, a banked turn, and a straightaway....PERFECT!!!! Another good thing is that No one bothers u back there...ive seen few ATVs and Offroad Bikes back there but i dont think they use the track too much cause its too small..i assume that someone created the track for r/c. The track is made up of old rubber tires, so if u hit them u wont damage too much.

If anyone is interested PM me....ill be there over this holiday weekend for sure!!! I have the Mini MGT (Big Block) and my friend has a MGT (Ofna .32)
We have fun all day while we're there (and i havin even explored the rest of the field)...with a few more peps we could have a blast racing!!!!! Even if your not in brooklyn i think its worth checkin this spot out. t right off the Erskin Street exit on the Belt (between the Cross Island and Pennsylania exits)
I think this is the place we all been looking for in NYC...<span style="font-weight: bold;">

lol @ kids hand got a stuttering problem too. That track looks alright but how sandy is it? like beach sand soft?

CranKitUP 05-29-2009 10:35 PM

RE: NEW YORK CITY BASH

The sand is soft like beach sand, but its packed a lil firm. I thought my Mini was going to have a problem drivin in it but it didnt. I think 4WD is a must. Ive seen ATVs and dirt bikes back there bashing

CranKitUp,

I stopped by on Sunday and did not find this spot.

I drove around the whole complex from Home Depot to BJ's .  Saw lots of dirt areas behind fences and the one open area just after BJ with a small sidewalk cut but not parking sign was posted.  And I saw a stripped car in the dirt.  Was that the spot?

Hey, I'm a Staten Islander.  I just picked up an Ofna Ultra LX Comp with a .28 axial and need a place to open up this beast. There aren't too may parks that have a good bashing areas.  I know there is a track at Gatewy National Recreation area that is on the air feild.  I remember it being a pretty nice spot with a few jumps and stuff, I've never seen anyone use it though.  I used to run my HPI RS4 3 at the parking lots there which are fairly nice and big.  Other than  that though the island is pretty bare.  The track behind Brownies is a 1/18 only if I remember correctly, I dont think its big enough for 1/10's even.

The open area was the stripped car was is near the spot....If u park your car between the sidewalks theres a BIG open field on the right.....if u have a 4x4 truck (real) u can drive back there....the place is HUGE... ATV's have a few bash spots back there that are perfec for R/C trucks.

Heres a bash video further back there...

Thanks for the info. Sold my 1:1 4x4 a few months ago :(.

Yes that oval track is nice.Where in NYC is it?

CranKitUP 06-19-2009 07:38 PM

RE: NEW YORK CITY BASH

Thanks Noc....heres a view of track.

http://www.bing.com/maps/default.asp...&amp;encType=1

You can see the tires that make up the track. What the map doesnt show is the hills (great for bashing) and he way the corner is banked on track. With a lil more work done back there it could really be a nice spot.

Fellow Brooklynite here, if you don't mind bashing with a electric guy I would be happy to show up and have some fun.

FYI, my Evader is on 27mhz channel A4 or 27.145mhz to be exact.

Edit: Is the sand in the track loose enough to warrant sand paddles?

CranKitUP 06-21-2009 08:28 AM

RE: NEW YORK CITY BASH

I'm still getting used to the iphone having video so I'm still getting the hang of which way to hold it for wide angle.

Looking good guys.  Have to make my way back there one weekend.

Aimlessone 06-21-2009 08:44 PM

RE: NEW YORK CITY BASH

Today was a blast bashing with CranKitUP and Noc. Even though I only had on-road tires my Evader still drove pretty well, I need to look into getting a pair of paddle tires.

On a side note: I cleaned off about a 1/4lbs of sand off my truck when I got home, all in a day's bashing I suppose.

RE: NEW YORK CITY BASH

This area is officially out of the question. I got a summons for trespassing on Friday. As I was leaving they saw me. They said nearby security called them. This is due to the burnt out car that is on the lot that is spooking everyone. They don't want anyone back there for anything.

Noc

CranKitUP 06-28-2009 11:48 AM

RE: NEW YORK CITY BASH

Not for me and my bash buddies!! For one, its prolly not a good idea to drive back there and park in the open where peps could see u..thats prolly why they bothered in the first place...the mall security prolly saw u. You have to walk further back in the feild where the ATV's run...not in the front in the open near the street...and no where near the burnt car where u were last week. The spot is very big , youve only seen a small section...if your going to run there you must go further back. If they cant see u, how they gonna know your back there?? Ive seen ATVs back there for the past 2 years and NO ONE bothers them. PLUS....There are no "no trespassing" signs no where around there.
We will still be at this spot on the weekends like we've always been...:D

RE: NEW YORK CITY BASH

Noc,

Did you drive in or walked in? I hope your going to fight that ticket. There is no signs post from what I remember and also it's not fenced in. It's open to the public to walk thru. Most times if you have the time to fight the ticket it will either get dropped (Take some pictures of the area showing no signs) or reduced. How much was that ticket?

CranKitUP 06-30-2009 07:34 AM

RE: NEW YORK CITY BASH

Right B.T.D.T.....most likely u can fight that ticket Noc. Ive asked a few of the ATV bashers i personally know that be back there and they said they never had any problems. If they didnt want peps back there they would have put signs stating that and fences to block it off. If u go back even further youll see were the ATVs have made a good size track for them to bash at (besides the oval closer to the front)

Ill be away on vacation the next 2 weeks so i wont be there...see yall when i get back!!

sorry i couldnt make it. i somehow ****ed up tmy rear diffs. i was going on some gravel surface. no idea how it broke. pretty gay. Anyone know where I can buy Duratrax parts in Brooklyn/Long Island/Jersey??

CranKitUP 07-22-2009 06:42 PM

RE: NEW YORK CITY BASH

ive been to a few hobbies shops in he NYC area....and to be honest they suck. They only carry parts for the RC's they sell...and, unfortunately, that list is getting shorter and shorter due to declining business .I usually just get fuel and glow plugs from my LHS and get most (all) my parts from the internet. I stock up on parts during the winter, so when something breaks i already got it...no waiting. I can almost build a whole new truck with spares...LOL.

dayz 07-22-2009 09:57 PM

RE: NEW YORK CITY BASH

yea i also got a HPI RS4 and you can get parts for that anywhere. Everyone sells that car. For my buggy I always have to buy my parts online. I just dont like to wait so I try to stock up on parts too.
