Kyosho newbie
Hi. I am brand new to hobby rc nitro.I recently bought a 2nd hand rc nitro. It has a kyosho gx12 engine and am nearly 100% sure it is a pureten alpha 2. I have not started yet as I need to get fuel and glow start. It also needs a gear cog and the receiver/transmitter is missing a crystal. Can anybody give me info on what I should do with it in relation to upgrades Also any info on the actual car itself. Thank you

First thing I would do is inspect the car and see if you have any missing parts. As for upgrades you can beef up the shocks if you like you can put swing shafts instead of the regular shafts the list is endless I will include a link for your car but I am not sure if it is a alpha 2 ep or a alpha 2 gp so I will include both when you click on the links you will have every single part number and name included with optional parts. Most of the parts are similar very few differences in the lists. If you like you can send me a list of parts and I will help you look for them.

If you intend to race your GP Alpha 2 Touring Car model at a competitive level, I would also recommend you obtain and fit titanium pivot shafts, turnbuckles, tie rods and steering rods. I don't prefer crystals since they can get lost but I bet if u look on eBay you can find that crystal through the parts list I gave you also if u like you can save a bit up and get a brand new radio and you probably wont have to worry about those crystals anymore I just got rid of my radio on my Landmax 1 just because of those pesky crystals...
Hope this sorta helps you
Thanks,
Ronan

Great stuff much appreciated. The spur gear is a discontinued part and everywhere was sold out. I found somebody that has one online and purchased it. Would you consider the gx12 engine to be decent or would you suggest upgrading that. I do not intend on racing this one as it is just to learn about the hobby but in the future I may be interested in competitive racing. Thanks again for taking the time to reply.

So far I've stripped everything down to bare chassis and rebuilt it using the original parts just to familiarise myself with me workings of it. I'm awaiting fuel, spur gear and glow start then I'll be up and running. If I decide to upgrade would you suggest upgrading this car or buying a newer car?

Well I think since you are just getting into this hobby this car is a good starting point once you know your car inside out you can buy a new 1 since you haven't spent much on it yet use this car for a leaning curve and then buy a new one you can always give this car to your kid that's what my dad did with the old Landmax. I also sent you a friend request you can always message me if you need any help.
