see...I don't have a temp gun but I don't imagine that the stock airfilter location draws in very cool air down by the heatsink. Its away from the airflow that goes across the head.As most of us know, the cooler the air,the more dense it is and the more fuel you can burn with it increasing performance a little.I doubt I will notice any difference at all but it has to be getting cooler air now and that makes me feel betterIt kinda looks cool too.

you did see the pictures right?lol....just kiddin man.Yeah,I used 2 filters because I ordered one with the car not knowing if it needed one and it ended up being the same as stock so I always had an extra one.Maybe when the 2 tubes go to the Y fitting it'll force more air in the carb but probably not, lol.

Could you explain how to make that? Like what parts and where to possibly get them. I would like to make that for my SNR, that I use for on road driving. It would make me feel better knowing that my new engine (when I get it) will be getting cooler air.

I used 3/8 pneumatic tubing made by Freelin-Wade,other companies are Norgren,SMC,Legris. All of those companies make the Y fitting I used but its a Legris. Then you just need 2 standard HPI air filters and a couple of tie wraps. The one thing I don't like is the way I had to heat the tubing and fit it around the carb,if I did it again I would try to use a coupler like on exhaust pipes. If you start makin this feel free to ask anything else...I'll help ya out.

I'm gonna go run it in a lil bit,if I can get my friend to meet me and bring his temp gun,I'll measure the temps in various places to see if I can find out if its any cooler than the stock location.

I would keep a close eye on your engine while running this, nice design but I think you may be restricting airflow rather than increasing it.
Air is not going to flow freely into the tubes because the filters in the front will act as a restrictor, air coming in from the front of the car is dispersed over a wide area and not centralized on those filters. What I would suggest is to put the filter back close to the carb then open up the front tubes. You could use wire mesh screen in the front to keep debris out. Make sure it is loose knit screen and not tight. You want the shortest direct path to the carb, I would try making the tube shorter and mounting the front opening to the windshield. Make the front opening as big and wide as possible to grab more air.

like dbow said, for these 2 stroke nitro engines, you'd normally want short intake runners, not long ones. It is true that long intake runners will force air to cover the increased distance faster than short wide open less restrictive ones to increase air velocity, but that is only good to help scavenge for low rpms and in this hobby everybody I know is always pursing to get every last rpm outta their mill.

Its not ram air...there's 2 filters for a reason. If it chokes out the engine I'll let ya know but it will intake air as fast as it needs, theres very little restriction. If you wanna pick something apart, look at what happens in the Y fitting ... but before the Y,theres no restriction. Why will the filters in the front act as restrictors?Theres twice as much intake surface. The air dam is cut out of the body and even if it wasn't it would still get air from under the car so I just dont see the restriction there.Possibly theres restriction in the Y but I drilled and filed out all the restriction I could see.The one place I saw as maybe being a problem is the tubing between the carb and Y fitting not having a big enough inside diameter but I figured increased velocity might help and even things out.
I never ran the car yesterday ,maybe today but I doubt it,we'll see.

Who cares if it restricts the air a little bit.

I think it looks awesome man. Good job.

Going to do something like that when I get my car.

Hey,its cool,Ideas and criticizm are welcome ,thanks Jarret.I just don't understand how dbow thinks the 2 filters in the front are restrictive compared to the stock location(with one filter) which no air moves across really.Thats cool....wait till you see the next onelol I'm on a mission to make a front intake ,rear exhaust car the way it should be.

I totaly agree!!! The air filters should be as close to the carb as possible and the tubes should have wider intake that shortens progressivly so that the air flow will increase (and air compression too).

I read the first post and knew he made it! I have thought about this too, but have yet to try. I think it looks way cool, but can be improved! Good job though! Everything new starts with a prototype, and this is a good one! I was thinking about getting air from the front, but I also thought about getting air from a scoop on the ROOF!!! Staying close to the carb.

Not sure if it has any advantages or not but it sure is cool looking. Kind of reminds me of the Pontiac WS6 with its ram air induction.
