I think they are almost the same speed wise..I know the evo reaches 43-46 mph..

hey joes75, i took out my 2speed in my evo the other day cause a little pebble got stuck between the gears and now its not shifting to 2nd gear. Any tips u can give me? The gears are fine, no wear marks. Is there supposed to be a proper way to put it back in or something? thanks

I wish I could help you out more, unfortunately I dont know that much yet. The only thing I could say is check in the manual it gives an exploded view of how the transmission is setup, or wait for some help here..One other thing, Im pretty sure you need an allen key to make the shift changes on the tranny, thats in the manual as well..good luck

i figured it out, when i took the gears out, it some how defulted the shift setting to shift late. now i just cant figure out how to set the 2 speed, the pictures in the manual are kinda hard to see(doesnt look like anything on the gears) help plz? thanks

On page 11 of the manual it shows you what to do, it looks fairly simple. Take an allen key, put it in the small hole on top the transmission. Turn counter clockwise for an earlier shift and clockwise for a later shift. In your case you would want to turn it counter clockwise.

ugh...can u bust out a pencil and draw that plz? lolz. when u say "on top" is it when you've only taken out the cover off for the gears and look from a top view down or do u have to actually take the gears out? or can u just flip the car over and change it from there? im confused. step by step plz? thanks for ur time

There is a littal hole ther on the gear cover like joes 75 said it's in the manual just get the holes lined up and use the allin key.

From what i've heard on the Hpi fourms at hpiracing.com they say RC car action has tested the rs4 type ss going at around 46 they also do say that the evo reaches around 40 or so (I'm not that sure go double check me).

the ss is faster. it has a 2speed and faster/stronger engine, so what does that mean, faster car

The Evo has a 2 speed too though. Supposedly, the SS and Evo's motors are rated at the same hp.

The Evo has a 2-speed as well with a 1.2 HP motor. They are very close in speed..

ok, i didnt know the evo came with a 2speed, but why dont you check the specs of each engine. the evo engine is weaker, it may have 1.2hp but thats at a 29000rpm. in other words, its accel is only fast, but doesnt have the hp at wot to make it as fast as the ss

Yeah, HPI shows the max RPM of the 12R SS is 35,000... 6,000 higher than the Evo.

thats true the SS has a higher power band but thats also a down fall... since the evo has a lower power band it gets up to speed quicker than the SS but the SS will only have about a 2 - 5 MPH differance at top speed...

the EVO motor is not "weaker" it just has a bigger displacement and heavier parts wich makes it not rev up as high but it has more torque

to answer your question the SS will walk the EVO at top speed about 2 - 5 mph if that... but the EVO will walk the SS in acceleration and through the power band untill redline once it reaches max rpm thats when the SS will be walking past...

i say walking because its a very slight difference in speed hence "walking past"

then why is the evo engine only $75 compared to the $100 ss engine. you think the ss would be faster all around

Well the SS is faster at the top end like KO said, so that accounts for the 25 dollar difference I guess. I think there is someone on this board who has an evo and ss why dont they just race the 2 and tell us the outcome.

the SS motor is more for that little reason and because of higher demand for racing since the EVO engine is an outlaw

dont think of quality from the price tag... thats how sellers make so much money... ignorance

yea, i know quaity is proportioned to price, but in this case it is. both engines are from hpi.

how does the RS4 with the TRX 2.5 do?

we have a guy in our club with an rs4 with the traxx 2.5 with stock gearing and a tuned pipe... he has a venom speedo and it read 39.4 but when i clocked him with my radar it showed 40.0

so by our testing it showed no improvement

40mph for stock, that's great, but i have the hd 2 speed and its sort of hard to control when taking off. all i know is that it made my gt and savage look VERRRRRRRRRY sloooooow. it has to go 60 like the 4tec, but my car handles better with all the upgrades,

I saw an ad for a nitro MT2 in a magazine and one of the option parts was a nitro star 18ss engine. so if the stock MT2 has a T-15 engine, then would the nitro star 18ss enigne fit the nitro rs4 evo without any mounts or dremel work? or if it does need it, what are they?

i think the .18 has the same mounting dimensions as it's .15 engines. if you look at the engine on the www.hpiracing.com website it said that the .18 made one of their CARS go over 60mph
