I run two SMP Slide's - a V2001 with an RB C5 and and a V2002 with a RB S7C. I know that Adamshowtime also runs a couple of Serpent Veteqs and a Vector, with RB's

That's just the 8port race. Still a buggy engine. But anyways, to answer your question - while I usually tell everyone that as long as you know how to drive, you can be competitive - it doesnt apply in 8th scale circuit racing, since everyone is already a top level driver. I personally think that you would not be competitive with that engine in a circuit race. The chassis isnt too bad, but I am unsure of its durability during hour long or 6 hour long mains and enduro races.

There are plenty of engines out there. If just starting out, or if you are on a budget, then the Sirio .21BRP PRO ON ROAD, CMB Raptor EVO2 Circuit, and the RB Concepts S7C II are good engines. For a more competitive engine you will need to step up to the the RB Concepts C5 and Rody C5 models, the Novamega MS21 MOD, Novarossi R1, and several others.

i was talkin to an 1/8 onroad racers whos sponserd by s&j hobbies his nephew is runnin the hyper 21 8-port race this year and he ran it the last couple of races last year and he was makin a-main with that engine. i was also lookin at some of the specs on these high dollar engines and most of them had an average rpm of 38,000 and from 2.5 hp and under why wouldnt the hyper be of any competition in 1/8 onroad if it carrys sometimes more poer and rpms of some of these italian engines?

I would rather remain diplomatic in this conversation. Let me just say that I wouldn't put too much trust in hp and rpm numbers released by Ofna. I can assure you that the high end engines that RB Products makes will far surpass the rpm and hp numbers the 8port puts out.
Along with that, being a buggy engine, it has a very short power band which is located low in the rpm range. This not only creates over revs at low rpm but it doesnt allow it to have the power needed at the higher speeds. Finally, the cooling head on a buggy engine, including your 8port race, is much larger than a circuit engine and wrecks havoc on the CG of the car, not only allowing a greater rotational weight mass but also making the vehicle less stable than the manufacturer intended.

RE: HPI proceed and other 1/8th scale on-roads
I just purchased a new SX-21 Evo 1 It was a back-up motor that was never used,
I can find no stats on-line about this motor mytsn search here etc...
I know Nova Mega is the serpent vs from Novarossi and quality should be good
but being 5+years old should I dismantal or check for certain things before use?

If it was never used, then I would pull the piston/sleeve/conrod and inspect for any debrie or rust. Other than that, it should be fine I imagine.

top speed depends on rpms and gear ratio. most 8th scale on road cars top out at about 80mph with high gearing.

RE: HPI proceed and other 1/8th scale on-roads
thanks for the info.
i was asking because a friend of mine is selling his $2,000 proceed (used twice last summer) and i figured id ak around the forums that are more popular in the 1/8th scale on road what to sell it for. i would list it here, but i dont think rcu has the 1/8th scale on road community for it to be worth while.
