RE: Official Smartech Thread
try it first with the smartech header.this way you wont have to waste money on the headers if you don't have. to forget the hpi one.
you're gonna need the extra cash for the tran gears you're gonna tear up!LOL
2 inches is a lot...even for me.after you get the clearance double check your left and right turn clearances under speed.i didn't and that was a big mistake[]
maybe you can help with another of my bonehead mistakes?
do you remember the base settings for that carb

holy cow you are fast!!!! i just put down the keyboard! LOL
you should be good to go
you might want to consider the pinion gear conversion down the road if you start tearing up stuff
what kind of temps you getting with the SMT.18?

RE: Official Smartech Thread
i thought you said you had the stock setup like the pictures?mine was pretty long and i took off close to an inch.what went wrong?can you explain some???pics???
the only downside to cutting the manifold would be the tune would be off. the short manifold might push the power curve upwards.
the stock pinion gear is a soft aluminum.the clutch shoes eventually eats into it till you either loose all clutch or the pinion falls apart.look at the pictures in my post and the pics of the rocket car you can see the hpi dark steel pinion with the red and purple gears.this is not a direct bolt-on.you'll have to do a little dremeling
there's not much meat on a .15 side manifold...i think i mentioned that.the smartech one looks more like this

RE: Official Smartech Thread
the shocks will have no effect on ride height. the height is usually changed by turning in or out set screws in the lower arms. once the screws are backed out enough the arms rest on the chassis which is as high as it will go with bending the chassis itself. The tsais rear exhaust wont help....after looking the rear tire would hit the manifold...just be changing one problem for another.
I do have another idea for you though....they make aluminum wheel extensions that will fit these. i think they are 1"-1.5". Ill hunt down a link for you but i think that will be the easiest route to go.
the bell and gears i used were from hpi on the car in the first pic....heres the numbers
HPI Nitro 3 RS4 RTR Threaded Clutch Bell 2-Speed 86039
HPI Alum Pinion Gear 23T # 76983 for Nitro RS4 3 18SS
HPI Alum Pinion Gear 18T # 76978 for Nitro RS4 3 18SS
heres the wheel extensions too
AXIAL AX10 SCORPION CRAWLER 12MM HEX WHEEL EXTENSIONS
copied titles from ebay if you wanna see the parts...should just need to copy and paste....hope this helps

RE: Official Smartech Thread
they replace the hex mount for the wheel. They slide over the outdrives and have a set screw that goes through them were the little metal pin held the original hex on. then instead of using a nut to hold on the wheel the end is threaded and you actually use a screw.
The clutch bell replacement is so it will last longer more then anything. The stock bell i got with mine was cast aluminum which doesnt last long at all.

RE: Official Smartech Thread
Ok well with the new tires I got on the car the associated manifold wont fit it will hit the tire. BUT I was thinking... What if I was to get some T-maxx wheels and some wheel extensions? Would this be able to work because I think the T-maxx wheels are 14mm? Plus I bought some snow chains that fit the T-maxx wheels. I dunno just some opinions

RE: Official Smartech Thread
some thoughts on your car/truck conversion-
what size engine are you gonna use? I wouldn't use the stock engine with the extra torque needed for bigger diameter wheels..gearing can help this but i don't think you will be happy stock
for the space issues with the bigger wheels-i can try out the extensions on a car i have here...save you money and you will know for sure.......another idea would be to size up the car vs. buggy arms...buggies usually have a wider stance which would eliminate the need for extensions but probably cost more to do...the traxxas tmaxx wheels are much bigger and the issue will only get worse all the way around
you sure you want a tmaxx? i have the new tmaxx 3.3 and and older revo 3.3...not saying both are not fun stock but eventually I always end up looking for more...the tmaxx has a couple different routes you can go with it but the revo has a lot more options.....you can go from stock to a sts .30 to brushless without any problems finding parts....just a thought
give me a couple days to try the extensions out...ill post a couple pics when done

RE: Official Smartech Thread
well i already tried the original tmaxx drive shaft hopups and they were too short.
seems like the center cvds are the only things that are not interchangeable....

just a question.....why replace the center shafts? I don't see what the advantage would be.... only problem Ive ever had with a center shaft is they fall out of the 1/10 cars..never broke one or anything...might be a headache worth skipping
