Default Shaft Driven Car? Belt Driven Car? Which one is better?

Which one is better, or do you think is better? I say shaft, because of the pressure you can put on it with out the snappin of the belt, lossning, tightning, falling off, ect.

So I think that shaft is better then belt. What do you think? and give me some reson to!

Lets make this into the biggest debating posts.
WITHOUT FLAMING!!

If you are imature, please dont post, if you are willing to argue this affectivly and maturly! Then argue away!

SHAFT ROCKS!
BELT DOESNT!

I'm torn, I used to think shaft drives were the best and belts were outdated. Looking at the race designed cars, seems 50/50 with both kinds being successful.

Belt cars are easier to install big blocks in since the engine is sideways. But then you still have to fiddle with the belt tensioners quite a bit, and that can't always be straight forward.

Shafts have less maintenance, which is nice. You can also bash with then pretty hard and not worry about rocks killing the belts. But you can't install a big block in then as easily.

id have to go with belt. 1 reason is for what kwong said about big blocks. my other reason is that in my experence, belts have provied a quicker, more snappy acceleration than a shaft. ive had my car for a copule years now, and i havent had a problem with my belt drive. shure a rock gets in it sometimes, but that is easley solved by pushing the car backwards.

i prefere shafts as the car acclerates better with 1 but a belt car is lighter depending on what ur shaft is made of

no, you belt lovers are wrong. shafts are the bees knees. there the cats pajamas! man blet drive does not have faster acceleration. Shaft does. you see, the reason it seems like belt driven cars are faster at acceleration is that the tires are moving at a good speed for the tires to grip the concrete and get a hella kick of aceleration.
but with the shaft drivin. the acceleration is so fast, the tires spin so much they dont stick to the ground, so it makes it seem slower.

im right. you all just want the shaft!!

I own all shaft driven cars and I don't think I'll ever go to belt. I race alot with my NTC3 in the summer but its still only parking lot races and they do clean the track off but not very good. If I lived in Florida or somewhere were there are a lot of groomed race tracks, I'd probably go to a belt driven car like a Serpent or Mugen. My friend has a belt driven car and I find its a lot lighter and the drivetrain resistance is more smoother then shaft drive. Also, it is true that belt drive has better acceleration and I do notice that on the track when my NTC3 is going against Serpents.

So for parking lot races, shaft drive. Groomed tracks, belt drive.

You dont belong here. Dont post again. this is all NON sereous arguing about peoples opnions for shaft and belt drive. I am trying to prove people wrong. Its all fun arguing. and such, so calm down!

AND

the only reason belt drivin cars drive faster is because they have better power to the wheels. while shaft driven has so much power to the wheels the turn undereneith there self causing slower acceleration!

Stick with the small words like "and" & "the". And then there's always the spell check that is offered to you, if you'd just use it.

And you know, you are right. Shafts do rock. I have one that I like a lot. And your mom likes it too

As for belts, looks like someone should have used one on you a time or two
ROFLMAO thats one fo the funnier post i've read to date on ANY forum!!

yea, it did have the humor to it. But it was still uncalled for, I would think that if you think about it you know it was.

And what kind of person comes out and says that?

I havnt used belt drives yet, so I have nothing to compare to, but the only thing about shafts that I dont like is the torque steering, when gas is applied, the car tends to move left or right.

anyone else experience torque steering? why does it do this?

Yea, I do not think it has to to with the shafts, i think it has to do with the amount of torqe your car gives to the wheels, and the type of tires you have on your car. When I first got my car I couldnt floor it for more then 5 seconds with out it spinning out of control, but i just got some new tires and boom, it stuck like no tommorow!

Well, belts to break, strech, and fall off, and with shaft they dont. And Belts take up more space and they are harder to move about the car when disasembling.

Ah, the dreaded chassis twist from a shaft drive. Have ya ever been to a drag race? Have you ever seen the cars pick up the left front tire when they're launching? It's because the engine is torquing up the chassis because the car is hooking up good. Depending on your chassis layout, with shaft drive the chassis is going to twist under the load of launching the car and GENERALLY plant the right rear harder and lift the left front. This is what makes a shaft drive car a little squirrely under hard accelecation.

A belt drive car on the other hand imparts it's load on the chassis differently. It want's to fold the car in half along it's transverse axis. My RS4 2 is currently in about a million pieces for a total rebuild and you wouldn't believe the bend in the middle of the chassis, and this car has never took a hard enough lick to be damaged like this. It's easier to stablize a belt driven chassis with carbon fiber upper decks and other stiffeners. Shaft drive requires more suspension tweaking to compensate for the twist.
