Default Many Qs

I have figured that I want to buy a hpi r40 now I was wondering what type of engine could I use to race this in competition a good .15 engine, What type of servos to run. Could I run a berg 5 on this? I have everything except for the engine and servos. Please help me.
thanks

Any rear exhaust, slide carb engine with an SG shaft will work. I would recommend getting only a .12, as if you ever plan on racing, the .15 wont be legal. There are many great engines out there, check out some by RB Concepts, OS Max, Novarossi, Novamega, and Mugen.

A standard servo will work for T/B - but I would recommend a nice, high speed servo for steering. No need for high torque though, anything over 40oz should be fine.

why arn't the .15 size leagel? So I could run a small standard for the engine and a fast digital or coreless for the steering? How about the berg 5 for the reciver.
thanks

I have a berg 5 for my aircraft, if berg makes a ground channel receiver then you can use it. you can use an air tx on a car it will work but you should always use the ground frequency per the FCC regulations.

yeah I have plenty of bergs I have one on my heli which I love to fly never a glitch yet, on my airplanes and maybe now on a can. I was also wondering on my airplane radios could I just change to crystal to a 75mhz fm channel or would I have to buy a new radio. I am just so used to my flying radios I am not really comfortable with a pistol grip on my t-maxx I ran it for a while on my air radio so I just got used to it.
thanks

im not sure youd want to run an 18 in the r40, i think itd be better to drop a good .12 in there. the .18 might have a bit too much power, ive heard ppl using the o.s 18 tz in stadium trucks have problems with spinning out and wrecking diffs.

While your particular hobby shop may allow the 18 in amatuer racing, ROAR rules prohibit anything larger than a .12 - most clubs and any sanctioned race will keep to this rule - best to avoid potential probems. There are many .12 engines out there that will outperform the .18 OS.

The rcvr you picked is fine - I have seen some people have problems with digital servos for steering though, as the self centering mechanism causes problems in tracking.

How about the HPI Nitro Star Pro 12R XS it has got similar power to the Novarossi nsr12s3 and I can get it for 134 dollars more of my price range. but I would have to run a header pipe on it for the r-40 is that ok? And on the servos what speed would you recomend.
thanks

The RB Concepts V12 Rody that I am using is more powerful than just about anything out there - but will set you back about 350.00

Any of the RB x12 or V12 engines, the novarossi S3 and S5 are also great engines, as is the Mugen MR12. You can also take a look at the Novamega engines and novamax engines - they are also powerhouses.

i have the XS engine in my RS4 3 and it is great, maybe not the most powerfull bu you get what you pay for. the OS .12TZ 3 or 5 port would be sick, the 5-port makes 1.62HP by OS

Yeah - sorry, I didnt see that post - the HPI engine you mentioned is basically just a remake of the Mugen MT12, the older version of the MR12. It's actually a very good engine, will work just fine for most situations. For a new racer? I would recomment that engine.

I have got it down to two motors the V-12 RB1700-000510 5 Port/Slide/SG Crank /Turbo or the os 12tzp. I was wondering how much HP does the rb put out? I haven't seen any specs on them yet.
thanks

RB Concepts does not admit hp numbers because they can be easily skewed and are not accurate in any way. Get the RB - it is much much faster, and alot better engine as well. Will run cooler and longer. great support too - their forum for their engines is great and is answered by Rody Roem the owner himself.
