Default NTC3 or RS4 3 18SS ??? need answer quick

Hi guys,

I'm new at on-road RCing and I need a quick un-biased answer here. Right now, I have the opportunity to trade one of my very nice off-road trucks for a 1/10 scale on-road to make a bit of change from my off-road fleet. I have two propositions on the table. One is a Nitro TC3 + and the other one is a Nitro RS4 3 18SS. Both are in comparable condition and well maintained by their respective owners.

Which car has better handling, is easiest to maintain, is most durable and has the most available parts original and hop-ups. Please set aside the electronics (servos and radio) and the engine (mill and pipe) which I'm pretty well informed on and can change at will.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Are they brand new in box or are they used with upgrades? Both are strong, both are fast out of the box, the AE is more racier than the RS4 3 though as it was never intended to race regional events or so. Basic track/parking lot racing, HPI challenge yes. Winter nats..good luck on that.

How used? Both ares are fine. If you wanna race later on both will need upgrades. Though the NTC3 you can atleast get the FT shocks full set for $40 and be happy.

I don't think I'll race realy. It's mostly for evenings when I just don't want to drive to the offroad tracks and want to spin and burn rubber in the shopping mall's parking lot. Both are used, the HPI a lot less but fresh parts (pins and arms) will be installed in the NTC3 before the trade is made. I've read only good things about the NTC3 but on the other hand, I had an excelent experience with my HPI MT2 18SS so I am a bit torn by the choice I have to make.

So far, I see more option parts for the NTC3 at RCmart though and in my region's LHS

Fresher parts the better. I'd take the NTC3 then if he is installing more fresh parts.

You say you would take the NTC3 with fresh parts, this would make both cars in the exact same condition. Can you please give me a few reasons why (reputation, performance, parts ?)

This would help me a lot. I hope some other people can give me a few opinions too.

thanks

I have a nitro tc3 and so do 3 of my cousins i like it because it is fully upgradeable easy to work on, clean, very durable i havent broke any thing major in the 3 years ive owned it, extremly fast out the box and can be made faster still, parts are very easy to get but so are the hpi very balanced car overall and not any real flaws that come to mind off the bat.

Well it's not extremely fast...to me atleast, but it can go to 55mph stock. Ask for pics of the engine exterior and interior. The car is pretty great, well layed out, etc. The .18SS is great too..lik chunkier and heavier so it wouldn't win acceleration wise. The NTC3 is so much simpler so I'd rather that.

Great guys,

It's 2 to 0 so far for the NTC3. Guess if this thread stops now, I'll go with the NTC3.

The RS4 does indeed look chunkier.

There both very good cars and the 18ss kit will be much quicker, the rs4 3 isn't made to be a serious racer but in the stock form its made for the parking lots and it does well in that area.

If both kits had the same engine and pipe, do you mean the RS4 would be quicker because of it's design caracteristics ?

Keep in mind, I will be putting a .18CVR-x in it, regardless if I take the NTC# or the RS4.

Thanks

I'd go with the NTC3 - it has one of the best reputations of any 1/10 scale nitro tourer and is used widely for bashing AND club-level racing. I think you would struggle to get the RS4 to handle as well. And, you say there are more marts availible for the NTC3 in your area? That should do it. I vote NTC3.

Thanks,

I think parts availability is about equal in my regions LHSs. There seems indeed to be more hop-ups available for the NTC3 accross the WEB.

Upgrades on the NTC3 would make it more race worthy and they are more adjustable and inexpensive than upgrades for the 18SS. You can both, but the NTC3 atleast has more gearing options AND a gearing chart to refer too for gear ratios.

The o.s .18 is a good upgrade engine wise for the nitro tc3 also it is very reliable and can handle pretty tall gearing yet i haven't seen one in a rs4 18ss.

I have no experience with the NTC3 but I enjoy my RS4. The other day I ran it into a curb at high speed and flipped it a few times and nothing broke. Thats about all I can say, the motor is easy to tune but that wont matter to you.

I have no experiance with the tc3 but i can say the 18ss is a very nice car. Easy to work on and clean, plus i havnt been to a hobby shop yet that didnt stock hpi parts to the point they were just laying on the floor.
