My RRR is getting ready to be put away because it's carpet season, so i'll have to say goodbye to the great outdoors for a minute. I'll be racing 1/12th scale this winter. Anybody else racing indoors. I gotta keep my skills up.

i just got that battery that i was talking about and its awsome! it fits perfectly and is still pretty light. i think that the r40 hara has better left right weight distribution than the mtx-4. i compaired them with my freinds. do u guys agree? i dont want to start an argument, just yes or no. either way i like my r40 hara. keep the conversations going!

No I'm just going with a different company due to somewhat lack of R40 parts. I can beef up the R40 a lil bit, but I want to go for a change. Nitro onroad is pretty much coming to an end and its gonna be elec indoor now. I just need new batts, prob a better ESC for high end racing and a car. Still I am getting mtx4 parts to gear up for next yr. As far as the R40 hara VS MTX4 it's personal preferenc. Since Hara isn't supporting the R40 due to elec season not many are picking up on it. The older r40 kit has been discontinued but you can still get upgraded parts for it.

Not sure as I have the option of offroad being closer. Onroad I may have to hike to madness or go jersey.

It is always better to upgrade. As long as you upgrade.

I had the Futaba 2PL, and thought that it is all I would ever need. Then I had to get a new one when it got damaged. I got the KO Propo EX10. Man, what a good radio. There is so much more things that you you can set to makes the car easier to drive. My lap times were more consistant.

I agree. IMO spektrum is the way to go as you deal with much less interference...infact zero interference. The 3pk is adaptable to spektrum while the 3pm isn't.

YEs it will, but make sure it's for the Futaba radio and the servos are HRS compatible otherwise they will glitch. I still got my R40 laying around here..not going anywhere soon so I may take it for another spin.

The HRS is still in the 2.4GHz Range. It is only a new module that will give you a faster response time. Here is a Quote from the spektrum site.

Futaba 3PK owners interested in the fastest possible processing speed are sure to be blown away by Spektrum’s latest engineering breakthrough, the Spektrum DSM System for Futaba HRS.

A new dedicated module and receiver have been developed specifically for use with the Futaba 3PK when HRS modulation is selected. The Spektrum latency has been reduced from 5.6ms to just 2ms!

This system is designed for use with digital servos only, and it’ll be available at your local hobby shop early in 2006. The module and receiver will be designated “Futaba HRS Version” and is for use with the HRS system only.

The Hpi R40 was the new big thing a few years ago now its not as popular as it should be. If you want to race this car at a club level its great for that but any serious competition will give you good fight unless you have your R40 tuned just right. Its adjustments can be finicky to say the least. I love the R40 and hope that HPI does something in the near future to get people excited about it again. People here in these forums are right on about the parts supply and not being as available as other brands but if you look they are out there. Its just about knowing your car and learning what the guys winning are doing its not always the car. Most changes that will put you up front can be done to any car. I think that the R40 being what it is should be considered by more people. Now you have lots of cars that people are selling on E-bay and other places for very little and why not stock up on some good parts at a great deal. The car won back to back national events: that is huge. The best thing about this car is you can take it apart in sections and modify parts on each section making working on the car much easier. The Hara edition still used a lot of parts from the original version so you can get a lot of your backup parts this way. So you want more reasons to get your old R40 converted into the new Hara edition, well if you look at the parts its only the tank, chassis, servo mount and upperdeck that changes from the 2004-05 version and the Hara. What am I getting at well get yourself a old version and a 2004-05 version buy the parts and make your conversion car. If you want to get the most from your racing having that backup car and parts can make your race. Well hope you can all get what I am saying and take a closer look at the R40 it has a lot to offer. The clutch issues that the R40 has are not really the cars fault. The tuning on the clutch must be done to each track and motor/pipe combo. This is the most overlooked thing by most racers. When the clutch engages too soon it bogs the motor, which hurts acceleration. The motor needs to reach its power band at the same time the clutch fully engages. A good rule of thumb for clutch adjustment is: if the car moves before you see smoke from the exhaust, your clutch is engaging too soon. The shoes can be converted over to mtx shoes and this will increase the grab and help with fade on high traction tracks.

Whats Up Guys, though it is getting colder i still got the nitro fever, so i'm out there racing as much as possible. Indoor is just to keep skills or even get better for next outdoor season. many times i wish i still had my r40 because, i was one of the very few guys at the track who had good luck with the car. But since it's stolen there is nothing i can do but help others with theres to help them become faster and fix some of the flaws that people have found with the car. Talk is talk, i think that blaming the clutch on the car is just an excuse for not knowing how to set it correctly. The r40 is a very good car, and in the right hands is extremly fast. So the only reasons why people like sab would change the car is due to what the manufacture is doing it. When is hpi gonna come out with a new design? Why don't they? It's those things that make me want to choose a company who actually pushes the sale of there premere nitro racer. just Something i was thinking about. Hopefully comes back into the nitro onroad game with something huge, and quits with the baja crap. lol Also futaba makes there own 2.4ghz system for the 3pk, which is highly responsive. hrs receiver also has a failsafe option built in to it, just like the pcm that most 3pks come with. In hrs mode you need digital servos. good luck.

Yeah the only improvements I'd make to the R40 is the alloy front knuckles, Mugen pivots all around, and stronger front universals. Also the alum brake arm is good. Other than that the R40 I raced was VERY capable. I made the B main with an OS .12TR...tick slower than the MT12 and less top end than the RB V12 for sure. Consistency and reliability helped me ace that position. I'm still selling it though to try something new otherwise if no luck then I'll stay with it again for a lil while.
