Nitro 4tec speed runs (video)
If you have a 4tec I would recomend getting these wheels and tires. They made a huge difference and I can actualy drive the car. They are HPI tires and any wheels that fit will do. [link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXM972&P=0]Link to Tires[/link]

They will last 20x longer than the foam or smaller rubber tires. Here is a pic of the tires I have been through in only a month. I will never go back to the small ones. Plus they give you a bit more ground clearance and more travel on the suspension so it hadles alot better.

wow. thats alot of tires!!(i think) i just got this car last weekend so i havent gotten much of a chance to run it much. but with that 18 in it it has some sick speeds as far as i can tell. im not sure if its shifting into 2nd gear tho. do they make noise like a t-maxx does when they shift or is it pretty quiet?

Belted tires can realy make a difference in the cars behavior especially on straight runs on asphalt. I am using Sorex Belted tires for both Nitro and Electric Touring. [&:]

Have to agree with Allan(above). I have used jaco foams for the longest time now and have been satisfied. Also the the little scaled down yokohama belted radials that hpi makes are really good. Appreciate the info beasley1 think ill try i set of those next.

Have you tuned it that much? I have a 3.3 and i had the engine fully race modded but haven't gotten it started yet. I can't wait to see how fast it will be.

Heh i got a 4-tec with the 2.5r setup that could beat that 3.3 but about the wheels ive had biggers wheels with the normal rubber tires (couldnt keep the tires glues to the rim )and when u go with a bigger wheel u lose a little bit of speed and while doing 75+ its hard to control. So i just bought a pair of fresh foamies and they r great, but when i get the money i will def try out these wheels.

Ya i would like to know wat you did to it. The only thing i can think of is if you modified the engine. Unless you have put a lot of money into it for custom gearing or something like that. But how yould a taller tire make it go slower? I would think it would go faster because it is going farther for each revolution?

RE: Nitro 4tec speed runs (video)
I have the 2.5r so i figure it does 65 ish since the normal 2.5 does 60+ and the 3.3 does 70+. I have my gearing setup perfect, 2nd gears kicks in the perfect time. I also have the kickass THS racing pipe which made a huge difference. I had wore down tires almost to the rim and the car clocked at 74mph i just got my new tires in the mail so im sure it will grip better and get 75-76MPH.
And about the wheel thing....a larger wheel take a longer time to rotate. I will agree the bigger tires do grip better but ur losing a tab bit of speed. The bigger tires are more for obstacles or tracks. Right now im running a 30mm whell in the back and a 26mm in the front (both foam) because i, as well as you, like to get the most out of my car on a stright away.
heres a pic of my car:
But one thing i think we will both agree is buying some alum parts lol. Flying down the street at 70MPH+ puts some wear on that plastic.

And put this into a real life situation. If a bigger wheels was faster, then why don't all these import drift cars have 22's instead of 16's?

lol put a set of t-maxx wheels on a 4-tec and u really think its gunna go faster. Hell i'd put 1 inch wheels on my car if i could get the ground clearence and if i could get them to even grip at the take off lol.

That was a dumb comment. Were not talking on a size that much bigger.

Larger wheels, in theory, improve top-end speed. You're getting more distance covered on the ground per one revolution of the axis. The trade-off, of course, is slower acceleration. Race cars don't use large wheels because (1) they're not usually all about top speed, and (2) larger wheels are heavier wheels, and race cars strive to minimize rotating weight.

I agree with that. I mean I didnt get this thing to race. Just mess around with and be able to drive it with out spining out all the time. I like the long run high speed passes.

Big wheels doesnt mean your not giong to slide. The Proline wheels i had slide everywhere. I dont slide at all now and im using normal sized foam tires.

Mine doesnt slide at all either. Did you watch the video. You probably couldnt keep yours going that straight without hitting something and tearing up your car.

Hey, I just viewed your video again, toi help you out, and our car is shifting really early. Toy aroudn with it so it shifts later and will will seriously see a difference. My 2nd gear kicks in the perfect time which is how i get my car to go so fast. The vid quality is horrible but u can here my car hit 2nd gear. Also notice how fast this thing accelerates with smaller wheels.
HORRIBLE quality video:
