you just need to find the factory settings and go from there.

Follow these steps:

1) Make sure the idle opening in the carb is 1/8 inch by adjusting the stopper screw

2) 1.5 turns out each on low and high speed needles

3) Start it and first focus on high speed

If it bogs at WOT, it's rich. Tighten the high speed needle

If it cuts out at WOT, it's lean. Loosen the high speed needle.

You will want it shooting a slight stream of smoke, so don't go too lean. Also, temp the head to make sure it's not too lean. If a booger sizzles and dances, way too lean.

4) Now focus on the low speed needle.

If it revs higher and higher at idle without you touching it, too lean. Back it out a little.

If it cuts out after producing increasingly more smoke, too rich. Tighten it up.

5) go back to step 3

how is it coming along? i remember when i modded my force .12 with a os carb, a backplate and shimmed it to where the piston almost slapped the plug, i had to start from scrach. i just closed the hs needle then opened 2.5 turns then got the Ls flush then turned it in one turn, then turned the idle so it was open a mm. i got it to at least start up then took it from there untill i got it purring like a kitten. (if kittens sounded like dirt bikes)

just take your time. it will eventually start. OH one big piece of advice; if the engine doesnt kick, before you start adjusting agin see if your batts are good in the igniter! take out the glow plug and put it on the igniter. if it glows red hot it is good. if not, first change the batts, if that doesnt make it glow, change the plug. experimenting on engines kill the plugs.

trust me on this. i have retuned my engine countless times and it ends up only being a dead batt or plug. if the Hs needle is open 2 or more turns or if you prime it you should always get a kickback or a detonation, even if it is out of tune.

I'm not sure about that.. It wouldn't bog if it was too rich, it just wouldn't get up to speed with a lot of blue smoke. If it bogs, your needle may be too lean.

yes, it will bog if it is too lean also.

a rich ls setting will cause this too, if it likes to bog when ideling, or when you drive it and a few seconds after letting off it wants to die, the ls is too rich. a good rule of thumb; have the hs set so if you lift the car and it has little hesitation and a constant flow of smoke when you punch it that is good, now set the ls so when you pinch the line it speeds up and dies in three seconds, if it revs high and dies in one second richen it up, if it has no effect untill 3+ seconds it is too rich. remember to only move the needle 1/4 turn at a time, some engines are more sensitve than others.
