Turn all of your adjust screws back to factory setting, and retune it.
Could also be air leaks.

Somehow, more air enters the carb than normal. Try to find out where the leak is. Maybe the carb opening is set too open at idle position. Another reason may be an air leak at the fuel lines or the fuel tank so it gets too lean instantly cause pressure in the fuel line drops and then stall (just like when you pinch the fuel line in order to stop the engine).

First try what cossack71 said...readjust the needles. And if it doesn't work check for leaks as I mentioned above.

And the air leak check includes the exhaust.
I usually change the exhaust gaskets after so many runs.

New fuel lines and clean the tank.
And how old is your fuel?

The next phase after that is take the carb off, and rebuild it.

Ahh you left the part about new engine before.

Did the carb come with it, or did you reuse an older one?
How much of the break in have you done?
And one of the other questions I asked, how old is the fuel?

Faster than a gt?hahaha last time i checked the evo ss could barely do 40 something. gt can do 65 out of the box.get it straight.

LOL...are you sure? Cause it happens that I have driven them both...and I own the 18ss...not the EVO+. Go at youtube and watch the GT running and then watch a 18ss...it might change your mind. I thing you should get it straight...! Inferno GT barely does 45-50 when stock...and RS4 is 1:10 not 1:8...not to mention that on track GT doesn't stand a chance against sport 1:10 class!

"fatten" it up (open the HS screw) about 1/2 turn (factory set is 2 1/2, turn it 3) and see if it makes a difference.

Did you check for leaks? I believe that problem may also come from a possibly bad glow-plug...

Hmmm...well then try the stock needle settings. Then COMPLETELY remove the pipe and the manifold and clear them with paper VERY good. Put it back together and then disassemble the carburator and clean it too (readjust the needles). Try a new glow plug (even if you think your glow plug is brand new it might have been damaged) and fire it up...! If it still doesnt work then disassemble every single engine part clean it with HPI inner engine cleaner fluid, dry the engine and assemble back carefully. MAKE SURE THAT IN ANY CASE YOUR FUEL IS BRAND NEW AND BETWEEN 16% AND 25%). Also make sure that your glow plug is medium one.

If there's still a problem try to experiment with different needle settings. If still there's a problem get a new one in order to relax again!!!

There's another part I just thought of.
Disconnect your throttle linkage, and see if it does the same thing.
You might have a servo that went wacky.

Very true. I got caught like that once before when I changed radios.
It worked, but it opened the throttle about 2/3 way when I powered it on, and I didn't know it.
It started, dogged for a second while it was burning off the excess fuel, and then went blasting across the garage into the wall.
I always start them on a stand now.
