RE: new engine breaking in and tunning for preformance
Ooooh, look what we have here. A kyosho ALPHA, 3 propably. It's looks like a GX-12 engine like me (see my profile).
My break-in is this:
1) 1,5 tank with the wheels off the ground
2) 5-6 tanks with the car on the ground doing circles or figure 8, with midspeed. Leave the tank to empty each time untill the engine turns off, leave it cooldown and then start it again for the next tank
3)Now, you must tune. Find a long straight and a good temp (a real rc temp with infrared). Lean 1/8 your high-speed needle (that one that you can turn with your hand). You will see that the performance is getting better each time you lean that needle BUT BE CAREFULL not to overdo it because the engine will overheat and damaged. The temps must be 110-130 celsious. If you have idle problems (when the car is not moving), then you just wanna screw a bit the idle screw (that one that controls the barel in the carb).
That's all. As i know that engine HASN'T any low-speed needle, so don't bother.
I hope i helped
EDIT: now that i saw the picture more carefully, you will need a screwdriver for your high-speed needle because it's like normal ones. Check how many needles you can find on that engine.

Remember that all the needles must be in factory position (rich) or the break-in will not be proper. You sure that this engine is new, right? And you don't have to use MY break-in method. You can do other things too, just wait untill some guys here post other methods too. That i give you is my old school one, i have another method but is really hard for the engine (not heat-cycles, but it looks like it)

Take out the filter, and with your transmitter, check if the barel inside the carb is moving. If it moving smooth then is ok. Then, pull full brakes and check how big is the hole. If it's really tiny, then, screw the idle screw a little.

The little box you mentioned is the receiver. If your brakes don't work and so the responce of your control, that's other things you must do. Be sure that your batteries are fully charged or if you using normal batteries then go and buy some new ones. Now for the brakes, i want a picture to see your mechanism. If you can understand how mechanisms work, then you can find the problem. Pull th rod that is on your brakes and see if the car is moving. Maybe the brakes stripped on a way, or the servo is weak, or you just need to screw some holes near the brakes. Check the first 2 i said and tell.

Yeah, the philosophy of that thing is completely out of topic for you, it's a very old car, and a different technic. Kyosho's cars are always like this. You can't even get a screw of other brand to screw it on a kyosho. Believe me, i know

WOW man you definately need to clean your air filter...that .12 engine runs REALLY hot...It's been 2years now and I still have the scar from touching the cooling head while break-in accidently with my bare arm...[&:]

You are talking to me, right? This car has 2 years or more to be run. I run it before few months actually because my cousin wanted to and that's why is so dirty right now. About the air filter, HELL I WILL NOT BUY PARTS FOR THIS CAR, IT'S USELESS SOMEHOW
