Mugen mtx-3 vs Serpent 710 ???
I am pretty new in the rc nitro world, and don't know much about these two cars, so I don't want to spend a ton of money on a brand new car. A buddy of mine has these 2 cars for sale, both in RTR condition very cheap. (Same motor and electronics in both) Need some feed back on what you guys is the better car and why? Thanks

I raced a MTX-3 for quite some time and the car was awesome., handled like a dream and was pretty easy to setup the handling. Never had a Serpent so I can't say much there, but there were always a few at the track and they seemed to run pretty well.

I don't know about the old ones, but i know for the new ones (Serpent 720 and Mugen MTX4). There are some serpent on my "local" track (if 140 km is local then what to say?) and they doing pretty well. there are Mugens also with Sirio motors and they both taking good places, but so the Serpent ones too. I don't know, but...i vote Mugen to be sure

if you mean the track in nicosia, there are no serpents running any more!!! they got tired of changing all the parts of the car before each race!!! also last weekend, a mugen mtx-3 won the expert class and the intermidiate class.

Hey 87stanggt. Cant say anything negative about the serpent 720. I have heard that they are great cars but I cant comment on that. I currently own and run an MTX3. I purchased it used and run it at my local track. I wanted a budget racer that I can mess around with. Sure its not a new model and parts are a bit hard to find but they are still out there if you do some searching. As far as how the car runs, well it runs great. Handles like a dream and its rock solid. It took a bit of experimenting but I finally got the car dialed in just right and its a blast. If you're not going to be racing and want to have some fun but still be a bit competitive the MTX is the way to go. The MTX-3 is an oldie but goodie and can still hang with the newer cars out there, you just need the right set up and a good engine. Good luck and you wont be disappointed with the MTX3.

Keep hearing that parts are hard to find for the mtx, (not good for a newbie) and thats pushing me more toward the serpent, not to mention my buddy has a ton of parts to go with it.

you see as i tols you amain hobbies!!. even if your friend has part for the 710, dont go with it because serpents tent to break easily. not some thing that a newbee would apreciate. also the mtx-3 is as hard as a rock!!! it will like never break, because of the good meterials used, where the 710 will need repairs all the time. i have experience with both the mtx3 nad serpents.

When you are talking about breaking easily, when does this happen? When they hit on tires outside of the track and when they getting out of the track, or while they are running on the track?

well for the serpent is both!!! as you run it things start to break, that is why the people that raced it changed most of the car before an event. as for craches is even worse!! you will be lucky if something doesnt break. as for the mugen you can hit it on the wall as many times as you want and the wall will keep breaking!!!there was one insident with a mugen that crached with 80kmh at a thick metal post and it was still going with no damage!!!
