Default First car - HPI Nitro RS4 3 Evo+ ???

Hey guys - read a review on RCU and the review said this was a great starter car. I am mostly looking to have fun in my (large) driveway, its about 800' long with smooth asphalt and elevation changes and is about 1.5 cars wide so it'll be fun to rip around on. I am into real cars (have a very over-the-top turbocharged BMW) so this should be fun. I have an RC boat I recently got (entry small hull) but I want to try cars out.

I am looking at the HPI Nitro RS4 3 Evo+ w/Subaru body. I found it on Tower for $309 - seems like a deal. I'll need some small other stuff, but its sick for the most part.

I know a lot of guys will say get ____ or ____ and they are guys who compete and don't mind a $550+ car - this is just to get me started and to have fun with!

Is this a decent car?

Thanks,
Jon

Thanks for the advice - is the kyosho site the only one that sells that model? I still kind of like the RS4 it seems to be a very popular platform

do you have a lhs near by you?ask them if they have fw-06t and try to go at your lhs and compare the two. and you'll see what im talking abt. yeah rs4 is popular because there's are tons of hop-ups everywhere you look. but the only downside on kyosho is the parts. its hard to find. but your lhs can order it for you. i have a freind who bought a rs4 and i recomend it to him. but after he bought his, i compare to mine and saw the difference. for example the shocks on the kyosho is threaded and on the hpi you have to put spacers. and in kyosho you can adjust all the toe, camber, and etc. but on hpi its already fix you cant adjust anything you have to still to buy hop-up parts (i think). on hpi is .18 engine and the kyosho is only .15. but kyosho handle more than hpi. this is just my .02 and not bashing hpi. but if you want still the rs4 its a good rtr car and for a beginner and tons of hop-ups. again this is just my .02

Hrm I am leaning toward the RS4 evo+

Question - whats some good RC car sites for mods? I know some for boats but not cars. IE., where could I get some wheels and tires and a body (I like porsche and bmw).

And finally - is there a best place to get it online? Went to my LHS (not very friendly) and they don't have anything. They are getting a "TC3" in a few days but I am not sure I like the LHS very much they were kind of lifeless and didn't really tell me anything about anything.

I get all my parts from Nitrocountryrc.com the web site kinda sucks as far as pics and discriptions go but there cheap and fast. There a huge hobby shop in Davenport Iowa and carry all major brands so look into these guys give them a call.Tower is good to make sure you get a code before you order, will save you a few bucks. The Tc3 is a great car,I had one for awhile aswell. It's a solid car with a good following so parts are easy to come by.The tc3 would be a good choice but I prefer the Rs4.The Kyosho I'm sure is good aswell but I don't have any experiance with it so can't say for sure. The Rs4 is a great car thats durable and fast only issues I ever have is keeping good tires on themGood luck and keep us up to date on what you get. Here are some pics to get you MOTOVATED

241, make one a light speedy (carbon fiber) beast, and the other one a tank (aluminum) [8D]

I would say go with the RS4. I haven't heard much about the Kyosho until recently, but just my 2 cents.

Welp, pulled the trigger!

I ordered from Tower today - I got the Nissan 350z body. Not my favorite but I think I like it better than the rest. I really want a Porsche or Ferrari body, but later on.

So - where do you guys get the aluminum replacement bits? And more importantly - I am interested in finding some cool custom wheels and tires - where does one go to see all the ones available?

THanks!

Wow so you can easily drop another $300 worth of aluminum parts into this car. Would it be better to just get another car? Or, is the RS4 Evo a good car worth doing this all to?

jimis, why would you be running alkaline batteries? A rechargable RX pack should be everyone's very first upgrade. It will make the servos faster, and would last much longer, as well as save the environment!

Don't forget to tell your dad, that an expensive charger pays for itself in one year. A cheap charger will kill your batteries and mean you have to keep buying new packs. Make sure you get one with adjustable charge rate and a good delta peak detection circuit. I strongly recommend the Orion Advantage (RC Hobby Athens in Psyxiko has them if evolution does not). I use that charger myself.
